Steven - You are the master of fantasy writing, as far a I'm concerned. Your creation (and Ian's) have enriched the lives of many readers. I cannot properly express the appreciation that I, and untold numbers of other fans, feel for your endless efforts to provide us with a boundless world to explore & love. In the last decade, the MBotF has gone from nearly unknown to 'Now Appearing at a department store near you". In Smalltown, America, I would consider that a major accomplishment and a statement of your success.

As far as Tolkien's works, or any other major writer is concerned, your place at the table of Fantasy Lords is unchallenged. There can be no doubt that you have earned the right to strut into any venue and own the place. Can you imagine the future of fantasy literature after the influence of MBotF and your writing style have manifested in the next generation? I can't wait to see what else is in store for us all.

Well, lest your noble cheeks become chafed with all the endless outpourings on this forum, I shall leave to make room for the others.

Unbelievable, I've been looking forward to this message since Hetan first said it was coming and when it's finally posted (yesterday) I have to be off spending time with my girlfriend. Life, it seems, is unendingly cruel. In any case, I'll keep this short, or rather relatively, and sweet. I hated reading - until I discovered Malazan Book of the Fallen. I saw no entertainment or ability to reach out emotionally in literature - until I discovered Malazan Book of the Fallen. I had no idea what career I wanted to pursue - until I discovered Malazan Book of the Fallen. For giving answer to these three things, for creating characters who made me reconsider what I saw as imagination and for demanding that I think, really think, on what I read, I say thank you. Thank you Steven Erikson and Ian Cameron Esslemont.

Shame this, I feel there's so much more I should say but I'd rather not drag this on. Therefore, just one more comment. I hope you're happy you two. You've replaced the previous Fantasy literature bar with one of your own and this one makes Mount Everest look like child's play. Effectively making surpassing the bar impossible for the next generation of writers. Thanks a lot...

Then again...I wouldn't have it any other way.

Greatest...series...ever. No other piece of writing has kept me so enthralled through every moment reading it. This was the first fantasy series that I ever picked up and it got me interested in the genre, but nothing that I have picked up since then can even begin to compare to the complexity and creativity of the MBotF. Thank you for years of enjoyment. The release of tCG cannot come fast enough, and I look forward to joining in the conclusion of what has been a tale of epic proportions.

I am a huge fantasy fan, I loved reading lord of the rings, wheel of time, I have read countless other books including george r r martins series and raymond e fiest, things by trudi caravan and other random authors, I have read so many books, harry potter included and I can honestly say that your series, your books steve, your work and ideas are the best out there. I have read your series 4 times, it takes me a few months to do each time and everytime I am left wanting the next book.. I come on here reading everybodies thoughts almost daily, I have past your books on to my girlfriend whom I hope loves them as much as I do.. thank you for the best fantasy books of all time!!

.... and a better person.

No mean feat considering what a cow I can be!

I feel like I'm losing a family though.... what am I going to do without my Malazans? I can't bear the thought of getting to end of the series, knowing there will be no more... it was during Deadhouse Gates that I realised the title of the series- and it dawned on me that I was witnessing the end of an era... and so now it approaches, the End.

Maybe we need endings to have beginnings? I do hope for good beginnings for you in your next ventures....

(By the way, selfishly, I live in Devon and really hope you'll do a book signing/reading in Truro or Exeter or somewhere down this way when The Crippled God is published - that would be awesome!)
