This is very true. Outside of the compound housing the Tower the rest of Pisa appeared to be a shithole.

I would second Budapest, lovely place. Krakow in Poland is also great though possibly slightly out of the way. Austria has a number of lovely small cities and towns, plus a marvellous section of the Alps. It's also not as expensive as next door Switzerland. Can't go wrong with Salzburg (you can even do the Sound of Music steps sequence if you want!!)

Also let us all know when you are coming to the UK for drinking etc. Would be grand to have a late autumn meet up, for something different. Especially as we didn't have a spring one this year (or did we and I just missed it?)

I'd suggest an Autumn Guy Fawkes meet up. If I have a place by then. If so, to Islington! If not, fuck you all, somewhere else whenever, I don't care.

I'll be in the UK from around 15 Nov - 27 Nov, and the only thing planned in that time so fa is getting up to a little town near the Lakes District to visit my grandparents.... and I want to get to Manchester since I haven't been there since i was 9 months old.

Thanks for all the ideas/advice, keep it coming, it is all appreciated :p Any Malazites in the area who would like to grab a drink or something, let me know :p

When you're in London, I'll be around for the purposes of booze and guiding, and I'll drag STd as my sober chaperone to make sure I don#t lead you into traffic. Who else is in London these days since GA left?

So far, completely confirmed:
Paris 17/10 - 20-10
Brussels 20/10 - 22/10
Amsterdam 22/10 - 23/10
Hamburg 24/10
Copenhagen 25/10 - 27/10
Berlin 28/10 - 31/10

Then on to:
Prague
Vienna
Venice
Rome
Athens
and possibly other cities....

Though I am not set in anything for those yet.

Then off to:

UK:
Cardiff 17/11 - 19/11
London 19/11 - 24/11
Manchester 25/11 - 27/11

Whirlwind stops in city's and some overnight buses, and a car to drive in England. I am VERY excited :D :)

Who is in any of the above cities (or any of these: http://www.eurolines...s%202010_EN.pdf) and wants to play tour guide/beer guide? :p I have accommodation booked in some cities... I also accept offers of couches though :p

I would love to meet any Malaz people in any of these cities, I will have an overseas number (soon, have to order it tonight when I know my phone works properly) which I can give out and contact people with

I'd avoid Rome like the plague if I was you. Yes, there's a lot of old buildings and history in that city, but Europe is littered with old buildings and history. The only thing extra you'll get in Rome is queues and bad and expensive food. Also, unless you've got great plans for hanging out with fellow malazanites, three days in Manchester is far too much. I'd advice Liverpool, who've come a long way from the slum it was in the beginning of the 90's (just hold on to your wallet and don't go outside the city center). I've also heard great things about Oxford, so stop by there if you can.

I'm in Manchester (just moved here on Friday though, so don't expect me to act as a guide). But three days is fine, if you use it as a base to explore the area (including Liverpool, which is eminently reachable on a day-trip basis).
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

You got yourself a tour guide in Vienna as well. :veryangry: Let me know which date approximately it would be and how long you intend to stay, so I can see if I can get away from work earlier on those days.
The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

Woo! :veryangry: Tour guides/drinking buddies/translators! I should have approx dates for more cities in the next week (ish), still deciding whether I want to go to Poland or not.

The UK bit of my trip is fairly flexible as I will have a car when not in London... I am heading up to the Lakes District area to visit my grandparents... and will need to be calmed/consoled afterwards with MANY beers O_o My mum wants to have dinner with me before I go to "prep" me for handling my grandparents O_o

Edit: I am terrible at spelling O_O

Make Tapper take you to Delft and skip most of Amsterdam...

Also may I suggest that you look into staying at B&B's as much as possible where ever you go. They will offer more room at a better price.

When we went to Europe last year we stayed in B&B's they are usually cheaper then hotels and the rooms are almost always bigger. In Paris, Amsterdam, and Brugges. Brugges and Ghent are only a couple of hours from Brussels via train and are much nicer to see. The place in Brugges is run by the nicest guys. If you go there then please check out De Gare. They have some of the best beer we had in Belgium.
