Sure, but his clone is awesome.
No one is going to get that reference...

...but then you have to include Thanos, because they are basically the same dude.
Pfft. Just a cheap pale knockoff. Darkseid killed Batman. Twice*.
In fact when the first time was undone by the JLA saving the future he decided he's not taking any of that shit and did it faster than he had done originally, that's how awesome Darkseid is.
*And took over the world and enslaved humanity and ended the concept of free will, but fuck that shit; dude killed Batman. Twice.
Thanos destroyed the universe, and then recreated it. Several times. Also, he has a space helicopter, and has fucked Death. That's how awesome Thanos is.
Darkseid sat in a chair, then was shot by Batman and sung to death by Superman. I'm not even joking. He's also been killed by Green Arrow and Atom. Robin Hood Man and Tiny Man.
Honestly.
(although I always liked how Mongul is an unsuccessful ripoff of Thanos, who is a successful ripoff of Darkseid)
Illy said it so i don't have to.
The first was a Crowning Moment of Awesome for GA and the Atom.
The second was possibly the lamest thing Morrison has ever written.
In the otherwise generally silly Marvel vs DC LS years ago, George Perez (who else would it be) drew a half page panel of Thanos and Darkseid fighting that is SO perfect.

The Wamphyri - Necroscope
Well, that's about it. Nobody comes even close.
I dunno... the Wamphyri never exactly hit heights of wild masterful planning... it's always 'show up, fuck everything in sight, create minions, fuck everything again, avoid death (usually by fucking someone), die, don't die, come back, create minions, fuck everything in sight, die'. I like Lumley's Necroscope books, but that's basically every Wamphyri he's ever written. The heroes fighting them (and trying not to get fucked and/or die) are always more interesting.

I am probably going to get flamed for admitting that I have read these books but I though Pe Ell was a decent villain.
That rings a bell. Was he the assassin with the magic knife?
yep. The Stihl.
I'll go on record as saying that Brookes does a decent villain. They are rarely brilliant, and do tend to be just as archetypical as every other character he writes, but i liked the Changeling from ELFSTONES, the titular Morgwar was okay, the dude behind the scenes in the HEIRS series wasn't bad at all, and his monsters are always fun. And while i really don't have much good to say about his WORD/VOID trilogy, the demons were fun, esp the little girl.
I tried to think of a good villain from a GGK book and realized he doesn't really do classic villains.
Stephen King's IT was great, probably the best villain he's ever created.
