Considering rome was my favourite game ever (until the remake shadow of the horned rat on a modern engine) I am excited as fuck about rome II, Christmas 2013 hurry your ass up!!!

That's just it, though. Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omen did the tactical phase much better, and now Crusader Kings II has given us a vastly superior strategy screen. Don't get me wrong; I played the old Rome to death some years ago. It's a shit awesome game. But after Empire and Shogun II, the whole franchise seems a bit tired to me. Though if they are able to implement all taht stuff the bloke talks about in the article linked above, I may have to revisit that opinion.

I'm still playing Rome, about to finish off Spain, Britons and Germania in the next three turns as julii, should give me the final boost needed to turn on Rome herself.
Although Germania threw a surprisingjly awesome stack at me there and handed me my ass on a plate.
Shadow and dark omen are awesome but they both suffer from the same problem as most strategy games ever and that's a linear storyline.
What I really want is to win the euro millions, get the guys who storylined shadow and omen, and chrage them with almalgamting both storylines,with multiple endigs and routes. Then pay a company to implement it all on a pretty engine that is as awesome to play with as the originals.
I don't ask for much.

I actually liked the storyline for both games. Yes, you must in the end jump through all their hoops, but how you jump through them will vastly differ based on the troops you amass which depends on a number of choices at several junctions in the game. If you go one way you get mortars, the other heavy cavalry; if you wait for the steam engine to be fixed you get as really powerful unit, but you will be faced with some terribly difficult fights ahead because you didn't press on.

I meant more along the lines of, you have to go through zufbar, have to go help the elves.
Fuck the elves,they're arrogant dicks.
I want to run around stomping skaven.
Its one thing I love most about total war, you are in no way bound by the limitations of some half added story.
granted yea.olde warhammer games granted some choices, considerably more than most actually, its still the same storyline with the same.endimg.
rpgs slightly annoyed me with that, like in bg, there was essentially one ending.
I want a game with TEN endings and a bewildering array of methods of getting to them.
Kicked the annoying dog to shut it up in act 1? Robert Jordan style that dogs gonna reappear act 6, in command is ship and stomp your ass.
Ioved the two red alert games, but I would have enjoyed it even more if, on the Europe map, where you have the two options for next.mission choosing one or the other actually made a difference

went looking for dark omen on GOG, found TA kingdoms instead. not the greatest of games but enjoyable, and I never did get to play the expansion back in the day so looking forward to seeing it.

Oh wow, I haven't thought about that game for years, we used to play it all the time when we were younger. Fire undead race is bestest, coolest dragon, funkiest units, niftiest motif. Air beast race was fun too, earth normal and water aquatic races ARE FOR PANSIES

Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I know what you mean, though there's a tradeoff there. Dark Omen and Horny Rat is scripted, with all limitations and benefices that goes with that. No, you can't go on a romp through elven territory or stick it to that dick duke in Altdorf. But what you do get are brilliant levels to play at, and that is something I miss in Total War. The maps are basically as shit as they possibly can get, where terrain counts for just about nothing at all. Because when you think back, if you could avoid it you usually didn't fight the battles unless you really needed to - at least not after the first thirty or forty of them. It was mostly all strategy map after that. With Dark Omen I still come back for the battles, because they are truly that good.

Fucking EA. Release day for NCAA footbal 2013 today. Buy the game, jump online (after installing my online pass, of course, because we wouldn't want anyone to buy this game used and still get onlinme, now would we) and play a game with my buddy across the country. I whip his ass, which is good, they have noticably improved the game from last year, which is better. Game is over, I get the message that EA servers are down and none of the stats from this gaem will be recorded to my profile. Really? You assnapkins had no clue a bunch of people would want to play on release day? Couldn't prepare ahead a bit, could you?

That's what I mean Bryn, I want a game with like 10 possible "win" scenarios where the scripted routes to get there are many and varied.
Hell some of the routes could take you along a similar path using the same battle grounds but massively different foes based on a much earlier choice.
I know it'll never happen, especially not as games are getting increasingly linear and easy,but I can dream. And if I win the euro millions.

Been back to Skyrim for the past few days, apart from ME3 multiplayer... Doin an assassiny type guy, only that with alchemy and marksman instead of one-handed and light armor as my focus. It's so much easier to shoot people from sneak than stabbing them. Pretty overpowered, in fact. Also, with alchemy I'm swimming in money, and slow/paralysis/damage magicka regen poisons make harder stuff level.
By level 32 I've finished Thieves' Guild, and quite well along Dark Brotherhood and the main questline. Not touching the civil war for now.

My first play through was very similar to that. Alchemy is the most underated skill. Every major town has an alchemist aswell as a blacksmith so its a good easy moneymaker. After sinking no perks into it and simply levelling up i can make potions worth around a thousand gold each. A good way of doing it is to stockpile your ingredients for a while then make a load of expensive potions. Invisibility and slow are good ones as chaurus eggs and salt is very easy to get hold of. Then simply sell these potions to alchemists and buy all their ingredients and make more. When they run out of money simply travel round the holds doing this. U wont make any significant money but youll be breaking even and your level will fly up.

Spending some more time in Skyrim, too. De-installed my fast levelling mod, instead going with a no-caps one, as I haven't left the idea behind that I am going to do one big playthrough with everything in it. Which is also a killer, of course... I am never very good at limited objectives for a playthrough.
I do hope that when Dawnguard is released, it won't cause a shitstorm on the mod-front. Yet another start-over would suck donkeyballs.

Gothos, sink some time into dual casting Bound Sword to get your Conjuration up for Bound Bow, cause that spell is a beast of a ranged weapon.
Just hit 51 on my sneaky stabby light armour dude, still haven't hit 100 on Light Armour or One Handed yet which is pretty nice, since my last do-everything character finished the last of the major storylines with 100 in his regular skills and nothing else at 51. Bitterly regretting putting any perks into Destruction though, really wish I'd looked up how to make that useful first. Also Conjuration Twin Souls perk works with Summon Dremora Lord which is sweet.
Also I glanced at the wiki for some info and found the Legendary Dragon stats for the second new dragon type in Dawnguard, and they only start spawning at 78 so that's a little while away!
