Has anyone heard any buzz about MW3 up to the release next week?

I've noticed that there hasn't been much hype compared to BF3. There's no early reviews praising it to high heaven. Generally the media seem to be very quiet. That is usually not a good sign when the big publishers are releasing an otherwise popular videogame. Has the damage to IW and the use of 2 other companies fucked the game up? Is it so bad that Activision has put a lock down on the press?

I've been waiting for the release of MW3 to see whether I want to splurge on MW3 or BF3.

I watched about a half hour of the livestream on IGN the other day.

It basically looks like a much more polished version of MW2. And by that i mean it looks awesome.


Theres quite a few vids already up on YouTube from people who got the game early and tbh, until i watched those I wasnt planning on getting this game. But now i'm excited.




But no, weirdly I dont thing i've seen a single review.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

All of the 14 year olds have been having their parents buy up all of the participating Mountain Dew products so they can 2x XP and level up faster then everyone else.

Also from what I gather, the game incorporates a more granular weapon skill system. Whereby depending on how proficient you are with the weapon, it will have unique attributes you can apply to that particular weapon.

So on a whim, I got Football Manager 2011 from a random garage sale I stopped by.

This is the single most fucking frustrating video game experience ever. Nothing is explained. At all.

I chose to start out as a Third Division German club to try and work my way to the top level and I can't figure shit out. How the fuck do I become an affiliate of a bigger club? No idea. How do I filter down prospects to affordable amounts? No idea. Why the fuck are my coaches telling me to do this, that and whatever with plaers that are abominable pieces of shit? Got me.

And the statistics interface is awful. Madden, NHL and NBA games beat the pants off this in that department. The statistics themselves are alright, but the interface is awful.

This experience is so frustrating that I'm about to chuck the game away.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

OK, a bit of help.
Generally, bigger clubs approach you as it is a board action. Usually, the bigger club seeks a place to let their talent get some experience. It might help (but I'm not sure) if you loan players from one big club only to build a relationship with them - check their reserve and youth squad for the Loan icon, the club will loan those players out. You'll have a decent chance of grabbing several talented youngsters that way.

Prospects are offered by agents on a regular basis, there are settings for it (if I'm not mistaken, they can be filtered by free agents/ prospects), otherwise, well, yes, they are a hassle. Mind you, every now and then there is a gem in there. I can recommend getting the best scout you have check them out (your best scout is the guy with the highest Potential Ability and Current Ability stats).

On your own search queries, well, those are easily adjusted.

Go to Manager in the top of the screen, select Search, select players, you get a massive, massive list. In the top right if I'm not mistaken, there's an edit filter button (or something like it), which offers you a micro-menu, from which you select the adjust/ edit/ whatnot option. Takes you to a menu where you can set parameters you want to search for (left/right foot, age, value, asking price, position, attributes, nationality et cetera).

Your coaches are trying to aid you in development by boosting traits in your players. Depending on how you play (wing backs or wingers, 3 or 4 or 5 man midfield, one or two strikers), you'll want a certain type of player per position with a certain behavior.

Your coaches each have a fave formation, a favorite playing style (cautious, attacking, passing, pressing, et cetera). Their advices are based on that and on their analysis of the players best position. For example, a coach with a 4-5-1 fave formation and attacking playstyle will probably recommend that the player he judges best as your left winger will train crossing and perhaps get a Preferred Move of Running down the left flank.
That same guy may get a recommendation to train First Touch and Tries First Time Shots from a different coach who considers 4-4-2 with a diamond on the midfield the best formation, with this guy as the attacking midfielder just behind the two strikers.

Over time, if you have a playstyle you really like and for which you'll recruit, make sure your coaches suit that philosophy as their feedback will benefit your playstyle. This means that you'll drop these guys when their contract runs out, and try and find better coaches. If you have money, you can of course just terminate their contract and absorb the lay-off sum, but since you're in the 3rd division... probably no such luxury.

To aid training of your youth/ reserve team, go to Team Management and set the button there to adopt the same formation as the main team.

Thanks Tapper. I'll work out a way to get loans from one of the big German First Division teams. Mongchelbach or something like that.

I have no money now that I signed a 32 year old left midfielder to make my 3-4-3 with two strikers and an attacking midfielder work. All my coaches are 4-4-2 devotees and I hate that system of play. I want more upfield linkage and a ton of cross/header goals.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

There's a soccer videogame that makes you the manager of a team. Kinda like the GM of a football team. You set the strategy, make the trades, jiggle the training and then your players play a full match that the computer runs for you. More of an intellectual challenge than actually playing the games yourself.

And it just might have the worst user interface I've ever encountered in a video game. Ugh.

If you don't mind signing loans for less than a full seasons duration (offering extensions often helps), you can offer hire talents for a 0% contribution to their salary. If you find no Bundesliga clubs are willing to loan to you, try the predicted number 1, 2 and 3 of the division below that - their players are almost of the same caliber as top flight clubs, but they may loan to you and their players may want to join you.

Seen as every fucker and there dog is playing Skyrim I may just buy it. I have no money but It needs a purchase.

To stave of this rash buying proces I watched Arkham City videos on Youtube and it looks brilliant so I lent Arkham Asylum of my friend and am playing that. Should tide me over for a time.

I'm not playing Skyrim


In fact, I seem to have skillfully convinced myself that none of the big November releases really cater to me (either that, or I will wait till the new year, when i shall build a PC with a decent GPU), so that my wallet is safe, at least untill the Steam Xmass sale.

In fact, i'm not playing much of anything these days, save an occasional round of crusader Kings. However, I've gotten to a point where my humble dynasty from the Principality of Galich has amassed so many kingdom titles that, given that Germany just imploded, and we've already beat down the Mongols, the game has become far too easy. my domain currently spans all of Eastern Europe, (except Hungary and Bohemia), the entirety of the Byzantean Empire and Serbia, as well as Egypt, most of the Holy land, and the entire Iberian peninsula. and the only coherent kingdom power in Western europe is France, which was never that impressive to start with. and I haven't even hit 1300s yet.....

Haven't bought Skyrim either. Too busy playing Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. I'm waiting to see what happens during the big Steam sale in a week or two. I suspect Skyrim along with a ton of other recent releases like Dead Island, Deus Ex, Space Marine, etc. will be much reduced in prize then.

For the moment I am just trying to figure out what I like better MW3 or BF3.

I can see Dead ISland, Deus Ex, and Space Marine being lowered in price for a holiday sale, but Skyrim was released for the 'holiday season'...

I'm not a huge Steam user, but I would be suprised...

It's not uncommon that even new releases get a price cut. Maybe it will only be 10%, maybe it will be 25 or 33%. It happened with Batman AA, Borderlands and Rage.
