To interrupt your day, I had a thought:
Would it really hurt if someone served Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain a remastering? No new writing required, just move the game onto new technology. Kinda like Halo's getting a remastering.

do you honestly think those boss battles would translate well in 3D w/o new gameplay elements?

same question can be applied for lupine form, the abilities menu, etc

mind, i've never played BO on a console, but the PC control scheme was quite complex if you compare it to, say, Soul reaver.

I sincerely doubt anyone would pay to remaster the zelda-like 2d version. and if it went 3d, it wouldn't really be the same game anymore.

Are you kidding? Indie 2d games are all the rage now. Braid has one of the meta-score ratings on x-box. And everyone loved bionic command remastered better than the new threedee thing.
Legalise drugs! And murder!

There making Halo 4 arent they. Atleast I think I saw it at E3? Wont be bungie though so not hoping for much.

If they remake Halo 1 and dont make the pistol as good as it was in the original I will be disappoint

issue being, this isn't a title of an indie dev. the rights to LoK belong to the great Squeenix Eidos, and they won't develop anything that's not a guaranteed seller.

Not to mention this would require them to let Crystal dynamics make something other than another Tomb Raider.....

To be fair, SE made the new budget top-down Tomb Raider that's been getting rave reviews. It's not too out of the question.

Exactly. And EA is looking into facebook games. The question isn't if it's a sure seller, it's if they can make a profit from it. The cheaper a game is to make, the easier it is to make a profit.

How does everyone here feel about the possibility of digital-only gaming in the future, as in you have to purchase your game online and download it. No more physical copies? I've always been somewhat against it, but I can't help but think that it will happen eventually. I mean, the main hook for me of physical copies were the covers and the booklet/manual inside, but those seem to have degraded. Most game covers are not great anymore, and the manuals are mostly getting thinner and thinner. Especially for the big releases, which saddens me.

This is the main reason the prospect doesn't bother me as much as it might have a while ago. Gone are the days of gorgeous, thick manuals filled with gameworld fluff and artwork and loving descriptions, gone are cool bonuses and maps and posters inside the case. I don't think moving to digital-only would lose us much anymore, and it gives smaller developers/indies a far higher chance of exposure and a far higher cut of their sales. Hell, we might even see less need for publishers in general, which can only be a good thing.

It can't happen soon enough. Digital sales of video games has already surpassed retail sales and as soon as the consoles get proper online stores with full selections the retail market will get crushed.

The only reason why they haven't dropped retail all together (and probably wont for the next decade either) is that digital distribution is dependant on a strong internet infrastructure and good speeds, something that is still not entirely reliable even in big cities let alone in the countrysides and less developed countries.

Publishers are also dependant on the brick and mortar stores selling the consoles and the gear that comes with it. Sure, you could just sell these things via the internet as well, or open Playstation/X-box/Wii stores, but it would still be more trouble than it is currently worth. Think of the PSP Go fiasco, where the retailers didn't want to keep it in stock because there was no games to sell since all the PSP Go's games were download only.

In other news. I've played 53 hours of Just Cause 2 so far. According to the game I've reached 38,71% completion. So. Many. Places. I still haven't been to half the villages and military bases. And there's faction missions EVERYWHERE!

The game has what I would call one of the worst stories in a video game ever, but oh... the gameplay.

I've promised myself that I'll go for 75% completion to get the trophy and then I'll quit. I think.

Gamestop will do everything in their power to fight against digital-only downloads, as something like 60% of their business is attributed to resale games, which is a bit harder to do with digital downloads.

I do enjoy going to a brick and mortar store to pick up the game I want. Much as I still enjoy going to a brick and mortar store to get a new hardcover of a series I love (Ghost Story, I'm looking at you). It just feels 'better' than DLing the game/book, although I do love my Kindle and my 360.

If I go to a brick and mortar store it is only to see if they have anything used and I always feel bad buying a used game since I might as well be pirating the game. Hell, the online stores can still send you a hard copy that is as cheap or even cheaper in the case of Gamestop than a used copy.

Game stores are eventually going to go the way of video rentals. Blockbuster is dead in the US but here in Denmark it is still creating a good profit. Why? Because nothing like Netflix exists here. As soon as a cheap and easy alternative arrives that is what people will switch to.

I buy most of my PS3 games through an online store and they're always 30-50-70% cheaper than the store copies. With digital purchases collected in something as good as the Steam service it's not a hard choice to make.

Yes they are, Halo 4 is set a start a new trilogy. Hopefully it will be good despite the fact that Bungie is not the developer anymore. Timetable is for a Holiday 2012 release.


The Halo: Anniversary Edition is set to come out this November. Looking forward to having actual multiplayer matchmaking over live this time around.

Yeh online Halo one would be good but I hope its more Halo 3 rather than Reach. I wasnt that big of a fan of reach Im not sure why.

Reach was awesome. And it brought back health, the lack of which annoyed me immensely.
