Oh crap, I wish I'd noticed that before paying 300 DKK for the game.

'Harry Potter game branded a "genocide simulator" attracts record interest after boycott backfires

[...] Gamers looking to order Hogwarts Legacy on popular online distribution platform Steam have even found custom-made user tags attached to the title's virtual storefront window by critics who sought to brand it a "genocide simulator" in a bid to scare would-be consumers away.

[...] Instead of chasing customers away, however, the campaign to boycott Hogwarts Legacy over Rowling (who had no creative input into the game and has not commented on it) seems to have had the opposite effect by raising awareness of the title.

[...] climbed to the very top of the Steam weekly global sales charts last week.

[...] broke the December 2020 record for a single-player game with over 1.2 million concurrent views on Twitch'

Harry Potter game branded a 'genocide simulator' attracts record interest after boycott backfires

Difficult to prove it wouldn't have sold even more without the boycott though (even if they can find a large number of people who never heard about the boycott, they're probably not representative of how the population as a whole would have acted without the boycott)....

'Hogwarts Legacy Draws Further Complaints Of Antisemitism

It doesn't get much clearer than this

[...] inclusion of a shofar, a Jewish musical instrument in Hogwarts Legacy. It's a goblin artefact that's described as being "used by goblins during the 1612 Goblin Rebellion to rally troops and generally annoy witches and wizards."

In Germany, 1612 - in the real world, not the Harry Potter books - there was a pogrom in Frankfurt. [...] this instrument which looks exactly like a Jewish shofar [...]

[...] the goblins who run Gringotts Bank - also, c'mon, the goblins control all the money... - resemble antisemitic caricatures in the 1903 book, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.'

'The game is about keeping those uppity Jews in their place.'

Hogwarts Legacy Draws Further Complaints Of Antisemitism

... spreading the love genocide around?...

'A lead designer for [...] Hogwarts Legacy is [... a] "far right YouTuber who used to make anti-fem and pro [GamerGate] vids"

[...] "He characterises the #MeToo movement as a 'moral panic' and downplays Lasseter's many sexual harassment allegations essentially because he doesn't think any of them qualify as outright illegal and he believes they were less severe than Harvey Weinstein's,"'
'Some of the video titles shown include "In Defense of John Lasseter," "The Injustice of Social Justice" and "In Praise of Cultural Appropriation."'

Hogwarts Legacy Designer Comes Under Fire for Alt-Right YouTube Channel

... but unless there's worse in there than what they described (or I missed something) it doesn't necessarily seem 'far right'?... no mention of antisemitism....

The wizard game seems to be reviewing quite well, but I honestly have no interest in the IP, and can't really afford any full-price AAA games now. So that lets me side-step the whole controversy aspect of it.

"Atomic Heart" I was really looking forward to, but with the devs being Russian and it being unclear how much of the alt-history retro-futurist Soviet nostalgia is genuine vs a failed utopia to be subverted/deconstructed, I can't even consider playing that.

I'm saving my cash for "Scars Above", which is coming end of the month, and which I already played the demo of.

"Wanted: Dead" looks like some fun janky time, but apparently they're charging full AAA price for that, which is just absurd. Same as trying to sell the new Gungrave game (which is like a 10 h linear shooter) for 70 CAD. Japanese devs are a bit insane when it comes to pricing.

I'm not interested in any game that pays royalties to a fucking bigot who uses the said royalties for the purpose of oppression.

Atomic Heart will be on Game Pass so I am going to hold out on that and see what comes through.

When I get paid and subject to Wife getting back into work I am going to try Surviving The Abyss. Tonight though? Every day is night. Time to drink change and mix lives.

Sony is doing a State of play Thing tomorrow. Some VR titles, a few "new things", and 15 mins of Suicide Squad gameplay.

Gonna be interesting to see if Rocksteady is able to convince the people who are pre-emptively hating on the game due to it (supposedly) being a GAAS

My friend badly damaged her knee, has been stuck in her apartment for 5 weeks. Can’t put any weight on her leg, can’t bend it. She is feeling quite blue.

She has an occulus and thought maybe we could do something in VR as a way for her to go outside, does anyone know of anything suitable? She would have to be stationery the whole time.

Not familiar but maybe this has a starting point? I'm about to work so haven't checked the thread.

The new game from the developers of the Surge games, "Atlas Fallen" is releasing in May. Should see a gameplay reveal soon.

meanwhile, gameplay footage of Dead island 2

Sure looks like a zombie game. Though L.A. isn't really an island, so i feel misled, :p

previews for Atlas Fallen are coming in.

"Desert Darksiders" sounds awesome. and after Soulstice, I can definitely use another action game with a whip weapon.

Sony is doing a big thing next Wed. over an hour long, supposed to be the unveiling of "Phase 2 of PS5".

If the MGS3 remake actually gets announced for PC, it might be time to finally start playing this series.

Going to watch the Showcase this evening, wasn't able to stay awake last night. I can already see from the news that there were some cool reveals.

Decent things, but nothing mind-blowing, imho.

Hardcore Sony fans feeling underwhelmed.

Would've needed a few more surprise IPs to make it a "good showcase" for me.

Microsoft has a strong chance to "win Not-E3" this year, imho.

Oh man, after opening the community centre in Year 2 of STARDEW VALLEY, getting married and upgrading my house....the beginning of Year 3 with Grandpa's ghost and the Cat of Perfection thing that delivers me between 3 to 8 Iridiums per day...the endgame "perfect this" content comes fast and furious. I'm only midway through Year 3 but I was able to get all my tools upgraded to Iridium, fix the boat and get to Ginger Island, I got a prismatic shard randomly from killing a slime in the Secret Woods, and thus got the Galaxy sword, and then I knew that the Adventurers Guild had the Galaxy Hammer, which I bought, my 30 kegs deliver me Pale Ale every two days (or Starfruit Wine in 7 depending on my mood) from my Starfruit and Hops patches in my Greenhouse that grow all year long (and I'm slowly getting Ancient Fruits going with my seed maker) which means that I don't need to do anything really and I get an easy 12-15k/day never mind my ponds, animal products, ect. I got the cellar so I can age shit now and get even more (I usually do pale ale and lose 2 days of selling on them for it) and just let them age, speaking of my ponds my Rainbow trout are happy as shit and deliver roe consistently, aah and I got my horse (named her Aoife) too. I've got my crystalariums making Jades all the time so I load up to get Staircases for the skull cavern, which I can now do well in due to my galaxy weapons and aged cheese (seriously, there is no better snack to max your health and energy in the caverns than that. Got a Dino egg that's currently in the incubator. And I've not dipped below 200k in gold in a long time. So now I just make my farm the way I want it decorations and organization-wise.

I recall seeing people's farms and how elaborate they were and how much money they all made when I started and I wondered how they got there...and here I am only in Year 3 doing endgame content with all those things.

It's nice.

I love this game.

loads of cool stuff from Microsoft today. Compulsion and InXile's new games revealed, and some neat AA stuff coming up.

PC Gaming show light on action stuff, but added a few strategy and platforming titles to my wishlist.

Curious about the Ubisoft Star Wars game; hope it's more story-based, less "Division in Space". We'll find out tomorrow.

Blasphemous 2 reviewing well.

This is good news since i just finished the NG+ run of the original and saw the true ending, so I'm ready for the sequel.
