Though the idea of letting someone pull off this kind of behaviour because they've claimed to warn you ahead of time, is incredibly disturbing.

Imagine that End User Agreement you never read when installing a program, would suddenly end up in loan contracts with provisions for things like indenture to pay back debt, or outright murder to satisfy some minor transgression.

That's why under law a person's physical integrity is inviolate. If it wasn't we'd live in a world where honour killings would be common, since you were warned when you were young that if you disgrace the family you would be killed (so on and so forth).

I'm telling you, send those guys down the tunnel. They beat the crap out of the guy at the end, and noone gets raped. Then he has all these hospital bills, since these poor innocent gang members were defending themselves from a viscious and unprovoked attempt at raping them.

I went with no I wouldn't attend and that it's wrong not to mention it should be stopped for the poll choices. I think this whole project is just disgusting and the guy is seriously disturbed. He obviously wants attention and I guess it's working. I can understand wanting to be controversial to an extent or thought provoking, but this isn't it. I would hope that he's just full of it and would not actually try to rape anyone, even if that is the case though I really do think the authorities should put a stop to this. This kind of behaviour and sick attitude should not be given any attention or any media coverage. If he doesn't hurt someone himself, he's bound to get hurt and at this point I think someone should kick his ass. Just shut it down before it even gets going and don't feed into his bullshit would be my opinion. He's had more attention thatn he deserves at this point, and it's certainly not what I would call art.

I don't think it's that you can't consent to rape, its the fact that as soon as you consent, it ceases to be rape at all.

Until you start screaming NO, at which point its rape again. Easy.

Regardless, in any case, assault is illegal regardless of consent. Same reason we don't allow streetfighting except by trained proffessionals in a controlled environment (boxing, MMA, etc...)

I would imagine when it comes down to it, the second he lays hands on anybody, the police charge him with assault. End of story.

As batshit crazy as it all is, it does provoke some interesting lines of thought. People keep saying that anyone going in deserves to be raped since some kind of sexual encounter is insinuated at the door. However, it is perfectly feasible to imagine that some people wouldn't really believe they would be assaulted in broad daylight in an art gallery because the law of the land would protect them.

Switch this scenario to real life. A woman goes to a party dressed in a nice little dress. She has a few too many drinks and ends up in a bedroom with a guy. She intends it to just be for a kiss and a cuddle. The guy intends to get laid and makes every effort to do so. Depending on the guy, that covers a behavioural spectrum from being frozen to the stop to forcing himself on her. How many people would quietly think the woman was asking for it?? Did she imply her consent by going through the bedroom door? Just because a person doesn't scream and fight or simply say "no" doesn't mean that they said "yes" either. The majority of rapes aren't committed by masked knife wielding attackers in a dark alley, they are committed by someone the victim knows so the whole issue of consent and perceived consent is a real thorny one.

Still, the guy is clearly just going for the shock factor and if he is trying to send a serious message then he is being rather unsubtle about it. People might call his bluff and turn up in their droves!

Chances are that no-one will enter it. You'd have to be insane, and I think it is what he counts on, emerging from the tunnel after a day or so, and accept the applause of the bystanders on his extreme social experiment and the outrage and emotion it caused, with everyone also being extremely glad nothing did happen.

He seems to be doing this for the outrage, or what he calls: 'the impact on people's lives, which it already has'. Also, the exhibition manager would be insane to actually let someone rape another in her gallery/museum and call it art. Use it to attract a shitload of attention: yes. Defend the possibility as an experiment or art: possibly. Actually let it happen: hell no.

Moreover, even if a lawyer manages to construct this in such a way that if you enter, you can be considered willing to undergo rape (ehm, whut?) and thereby basically consenting, removing the rape factor and making it extremely rough sex instead, I'd say that any non-sexual criminal offense he commits to subdue you, is still illegal and merits locking him up for a long, long time. As such, I'm somewhat unconcerned that this will become reality - law suits would go through the roof.

The punch thing on the other hand, and his pride in having disfigured that girl, was disturbing to me. Yeah, she entered the tunnel, so she invited it. But...

I mean, what is a punch? It can be playful. It can be done with a feather duster, or with a boxing glove. Would you expect to be smacked straight in your face with a bare fist or with a knuckleduster? I wouldn't.
It being some gimmick is what i would expect, not serious injury because the artist wants to have an impact on my life.

anyway, in the end: the Marquis de Sade has done a bit of this already, so he's not THAT unique as he thinks he is. Maybe someone should point this out...

I disagree, this thread just proves that people neither like rape nor maniacs. I don't see any actual meaningful conversation coming from this 'hoax'.
