Tiesto was really great actually, and fairly dedicated to his tables (not a lot of hands in the air last night for him, though I know what you mean). My only issue is that there were TWO opening DJ's (not just one as was listed), and the main listed support DJ Wolfgang Gartner stayed on for and hour and half!!! so Tiesto didn't even take the stage till 11PM and Cara and I had been there since 8PM, so even halfway into Tiesto's set (midnight), we'd had enough and bailed early. He spun my fave track though so I was perfectly happy with it. I also got his new club life disc for $10.

Personally I want to see ABOVE & BEYOND (or even better their OCEANLAB incarnation) for a DJ show as I love them...

...and I once saw John Digweed who I thought was going to rule...and he totally sucked sadly.

Best DJ show I have ever seen was probably Morgan Page (when he opened for Delerium) or when Moby played a normal DJ show at the Toronto Island during Virgin Fest (not his music at all mind you...a proper DJ set.)

Glad to hear you had a great time! Two warm up acts is a bit too much, although Wolfgang Gartner is good enough to do a show as main act, too :) Morgan Page is still on my to-see list, so I'm somewhat jealous on that front :p

Yeah, if you ever get any chance to see Morgan Page...you must do it. He's bloody incredible live.

I can kinda see that happening with Digweed. Not that I think he's bad or anything, just .... yeah.

Aw, man, Delerium -- lucky you! I ♥ me some Rhys Fulber, and pretty much anything he's ever laid hands on (especially Conjure One, but that's also because I have been in love with Poe since I was in middle school). With all the guest artists taking part in the music, how was it? I mean, did he drag along Chemda and Leigh and the rest along for the ride, use recordings, do an instrumental set or what? (Sadly, I narrowly missed Blue Man Group when I moved down here, or I could have have least seen how they do it.)



For concerts I've seen ... well. I caught the last Lilith Fair of the 90's at The Gorge in Washington, with Luscious Jackson, Liz Phair, Mya, Sixpence and obviously Sarah McLachlan. I enjoyed the hell out of it, despite being a high schooler from the rural backwoods of Jesus land and being hugely intimidated by what was, after all, a bit of a 'gina fest. Also, the massive amounts of people in general! I like my concerts small and intimate, where I can go talk shit with the artists after the show and whatnot (an older friend of mine has kind of an awful story about the Eagles, and their utter disdain for their own fans which was pretty awful).

Flew to LA once to see my favorite Japanese pop/rock band, Psycho le Cemu, in concert. Utterly goofy band (dresses up like video game cliches), but their songs are addictively happpy. Sadly, the singer kinda crapped out after about half an hour, but so worth it.

The Red Elvises were pretty epic; I saw them twice, once in Montana a few years ago, and then last month or so in Phoenix, and they've gotten even better. Russian surf-rock, hell yes! :D Hilarious guys, hilarious songs, but the talent is obvious and they play the second-best live show I ever saw.

My absolute favorite show was, however, Shearwater. They're a small Austin band whose biggest moment was probably opening for Coldplay (haha), but oh my god they are my favorite band and that they are pretty much unknown breaks my heart in every way. Wye Oak, from Baltimore, opened for them and I fell in love with them too while I was at it. Also, Shearwater is just cool. After the show, a friend dragged me over to get her copy of The Golden Archipelago signed, and their lead singer Jonathan Meiburg sat down with us and opened up the booklet that comes with the CD to go all science nerd on us (his other, "main" job, is an ornithologist; you can catch him in Austin twice a week, sometimes, one day giving a lecture on birds of the south pacific, and the next playing a show.) Their drummer/general percussionist is also a wonder; he also plays with The Swans, and I think also some Angels of Light. I'd like to see either Okkervil River or Shearwater in concert myself to see what they're like live. Very doubtful they'll ever make it to the south Island of New Zealand though. I have a few old concerts of theirs on my computer though from NPR, but those are from back in 2007 (for Okkervil River) and 2008 (for Shearwater). Not sure if they are all still available , but if you look up NPR (All Songs Considered Live) on itunes, then you might still be able to get them. And they are free.

Was just looking through various gig guides to see if there is anything down here worth seeing, but unfortunately it seems not. The only venue that gets some interesting acts, has a crap stage, mediocre sound, and terrible lighting (which really annoys me as i like to shoot gigs). So i usually skip going there since it will only frustrate me so much.

I should've gone to Wellington instead (where they get some top flight artists).

Yeah Delerium were brilliant (I am also a huge Conjure One fan too :D). It was actually fairly cool lineup with Rhys, both Kirsty Thirsk and Leigh Nash were there to do vocals, which was (I don't need to tell you) AMAZING! And funnily enough, Sarah McLachlan's (now ex) hubby Ashwin Sood was on the drums. That is a show that to this day my girlfriend talks about her fave ever...and she keeps asking when they will come back and I have to keep telling her how very rarely Delerium tour. If they EVER come your way you must go. They did all the standby's and I Kirsty or Leigh would pick up the vocals on tracks they didn't do originally (like Kirsty handled Silence). Getting to hear stuff like Flowers Become Screens and Run For It...live...with their original vocalists was....defining in my concert-going career.

Two weeks ago we saw The national and Arcade fire. They were a great show. It seems like everyone on Arcade fire is super talented and able to play almost all of the instruments. They kept switching people around. It was great.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

The National are amazing. One of my favourite bands.

Bill Callahan on Monday night was brilliant too, despite a slightly strange choice of opening act.

Nightwish - awesome
Muse - shit

Thus completes my concert going experience.

I would do terrible, unspeakable things to see Nightwish in concert. Sadly they haven't been back for a few years.

Same, saw them in November myself. Great experience.

I've seen:

Skindred and Street Dogs (both supporting the following, only listed them because they were actually damn good despite being support acts)
Flogging Molly (damn great show, exhausting and memorable)
Muse (not... great, really, could've gotten the same experience just listening to their albums)
Baroness (excellent)
Gogol Bordello (utterly insane, awesome)
Devin Townsend (great, could've done without songs from his boring new album though)
The National (excellent)
The Futureheads (free show at my uni freshers' week, definitely the highlight of the week)

I'm not that into bands but I like Muse and would consider seeing them in concert.

They were note-perfect, but it all felt really rehearsed and lifeless. I love energetic and maybe more free-flowing gigs than they could put on, but it was more of a stage show than I'm used to. Platforms raising and lowering, specific choreography, no audience interaction, all very rehearsed and "safe". I can't fault their performance, and I guess it's not really their fault, but they might as well have been robots.

Saw them at Old Trafford last summer - ok but agree not over dynamic - and I find Matt Bellamy's (poor) singing technique - gulping breaths - very noticable and offputting live - it is somewhat less noticable in the studio, though creeps in on some songs. So, while they seem to have won loads of Brits for best live performance, I would probably just put the CD (or MP3) back on

That's weird, when they were down here their songs sounded nothing like their studio album - Bellamy especially spend a lot of time between songs mucking about with some pretty awesome feedbacks loops and a weird touch-screen thing on his guitar. I enjoyed it a lot, probably more than Rammstein and Metallica, although it's probably not my favourite concert ever. Probably because I was expecting a HAARP level performance.
