Erm, in vaguely chronological order...

Arch Enemy
Cradle of Filth
Bleeding Through (terrible)
Himsa (even worse)
Napalm Death
Kreator
Suffocation
Hypocrisy
Decapitated
Fear Factory
Opeth x 3
Dark Tranquility
Devildriver (awful, but I don't like them to begin with, opening for Opeth for some reason)
Dream Theater
Three
Between the Buried and Me (don't ask me what they were doing at Prog Nation, they sucked)
Rotting Christ
Epicurean (TRULY awful, opening for RC)
Mantic Ritual (really good young thrash band)
Testament
Judas Priest
Belphegor
Amon Amarth
Ensiferum

ETA: missed Blind Guardian because it was a 19+ show, 2 weeks before I turned 19... recently missed Mayhem because they canceled. Fuckers.

I know. Now all that's left on my list is Anathema and Sepultura pre-roots era. I admit, travelling back in time to see Sepultura when they were good may be something of a challenge, but Anathema should be very doable.

DJ Shadow, Utrecht.

Awesomeness and mad skills, and if you know his music and love it, it won't disappoint. If you expect an easy night out with groovy tunes, this isn't something for you.

It was definately more drum 'n' bass than hip hop, but still a tad bit too slow to get the crowd going wild... but a good time was had and I can only take my hat of at his massive display of love for music and the ability to mix it all live.

End verdict: 9 chickens out of 10 Illys.

Saw Slayer and Megadeth last Friday.
Good show over all, not as good as last time Slayer was here though.

^^^ I wouldn't mind seeing Slayer and Megadeth. They were in Edmonton one of the last times I was there but my friend wasn't interested in going and I didn't want to go by myself...

Wasn't there supposed to be "The Big Four" tour (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax)?..... I wouldn't mine seeing that, see how the old geezers try to outdo each other.

The Big Four wasn't a tour it was one of the Sonisphere shows in Poland (and maybe one in Bulgaria as well) Wouldn't have minded seeing it, but I spoke to someone who was there at Sonisphere UK over the weekend and she said she could hardly see a thing as there was far too many people in the audience... I saw two out of the four of them this weekend - Slayer and Anthrax - Slayer were poor, Anthrax were pretty good!

I also managed to cram into three short days:

Alice Cooper (got boring after a while...);
Turisas (3rd time & still brilliant!);
65daysofstatic (stunning live!);
Sylosis (loved them!);
Bigelf (bit meh);
Rammstein (who I don't like but their live show was ace!);
Motley Crue (just awful!);
Apocalyptica (Cellos ftw!);
Fear Factory (pretty good);
Soulfly (yawn);
Lacuna Coil (Average);
Katatonia (Not too bad);
Kellermensch (quite enjoyed them & they are coming to Cardiff soon!);
Karnivool (FREAKING EPIC - they opened the main stage on the last day);
Skindred (hilarious and excellent);
The Cult (what's the fuss?)
G.U. Medicine (wondered past them playing and they were actually pretty good!);
And of course, the mighty Iron Maiden! Seriously, they put on an excellent show. Bruce Dickinson is so energetic, it gets tiring just watching!!

I also caught the beginning of a bunch of shows but got bored and wondered off, plus a bunch of comedians. Good weekend!

Well I saw the Big 4 in Istanbul, which was their last show in Sonisphere for the Big 4..and Anthrax were pretty mild...Megadeth's sound engineering was just horrendous... you couldn't hear a thing...Slayer were pretty awesome and worked the crowd to a frenzy..but really Metallica stole the show -and I'm not just saying this as a fanboy...- I mean the moment metallica started performing everyone in the crowd with no exception just went along...I mean they were just amazing..every thing from the track list to the fireworks were just top notch...anyone's who has ever seen Metallica live knows their shows kick-ass...and this was no exception...
Though I was bummed they didn't all come on stage and perform together like they did in Bulgaria..

I love this band, am very jealous. Did they play much of the more electronic stuff off the new album, or was it a mix of old and new?

To be honest at that point I was so tired (I had been camping for about a week and a half and working on a conference doing tech stuff and was absolutely knackered, plus the gig started fairly late anyway) so I couldn't tell you what stuff they played. But I sat down and let the sound wash over me it was astonishing. I know they played some old stuff cos I recognised it - the more piano based stuff, but yeah there was a lot of electronica there too. All those guys can play most of the instruments if you get a chance to see them I would definitely recommend it!

Mr James - I hate it when at concerts (especially metal ones) they think it is OK to over distort everything and turn the bass drums up so much louder than anything else. Sure, its metal and a lot of it is over distorted anyway but in sound terms when you distort something that is already over distorted it just sounds messy and you end up not being able to hear the singer properly. There needs to be a balance. I am in no way a pro sound techy (though I have had a lot of training in live sound mixing) and it seriously bugs me. Shame the Megadeth live show sounded naff. They would be the ones I would want to see the most out of the big four...

There is a list as long as my arm of bands that I would love to see live (65days being one of them), but unfortunately no one ever includes South Africa on their 'World Tours' :(
