Old thread but I like it. Although I had to be very careful about reading DoD spoilers.
Top 5 sad moments:
1. Lorn crying in Darujhistan after her defeat and questioning everything up to that point
2. Beak holding on as much as he can to give his friends time enough to fight. And sacrificing everything in doing so.
3. Tool seeing Toc on Lether and crying uncontrollably
4. Whiskeyjack and Korlats inevitable reaction
5. Coltaine. Coltaine. Coltaine.

K'rul walking over a shattered Jacuruku in the MOI prologue is probably the most devastationg scene in terms of pure scale of the disaster.

as others have said trull's death just made me mad .. he was such an awesome character and to die liek that ....

When Faradan Sort squishes the scorpions. Totally heartbreaking! Also I think it messes her reputation up for the rest of the series, since in a way, she should be ranked right alongside Tavore and Lostara Yil as totally awesome BH women, but she kinda gets the short shrift.

As emotionally drained as I've been from nearly the beginning of the series, I was shocked at how a few things in the last book got me.
Tavore's breakdown for one. I nearly screamed before she wailed, thinking she was about to kill Ganoes, making it two-for-two in the "killing siblings" category. But the apprehension died and I nearly cried at her reaction to everything that had happened.
Mostly the one that got me was the end of the book (before the epilogues). One line from Icarium to Ublala, "My friend, I remember something." If only Mappo were alive to hear it.

3. Beak - Had goosebumps all over from the awesome power wielded even as it killed him.. all to help his friends.

One of the most shocking -- not necessarily sad, just shocking -- moments for me was the single line, "Good at dying." Wow, that one smacked me right in the face with the intensity of hurt and rage it conveyed.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

The first time reading it, I had the opposite reaction (that it was cold and even dismissive), I guess because Tattersail herself doesn't necessarily understand it. But then once you get to know the BBs and WJ in particular, the line turns around completely.

Finished Night of knives today (read it out of sync, oops) and started a re-read from the first book. Just reading all the characters again after following them throughout the series knowing what happens to them, who dies and who survives the long game. That is the hardest part for me.
I'm going to be reading these books for the rest of my life trying to catch every little secret and plot detail...and i'm ok with that :D
