Maybe he's a member of a secret sect trained by RJ to hunt down anyone bad-mouthing him even slightly. Maybe.

I considered TEotW another typical first book of typical fantasy series. I really liked second book TGH. My favourite is FoH. LoC was ok. Next ones - lets not speak about it. I get tired just thinking about them. I'm starting to forget what the actual plot is about.
And I used to like all the characters. Now I can't stand them. Any of them - neither Rand nor Egwene. They piss me off. I wish I could go and smack them all.

I vote for a Royal Rumble between Jordan and all other fantasy authors. Whoever survives the match without dying of a coronary, shall be crowned Fantasy King!

Of all the series I have read over the years WOT was the biggest pile of crap I have ever had the misfortune of picking up. The first 4-5 books left me with some satisfaction but I soon figured out by the next couple of books just how awful the series is. With the women there constant braid pulling and nagging leaves you feeling that he is not basing them on very healthy people. And the fact that the last three books have progressed so slow that it is starting to feel like a Soap Opera. He just seems to be prolonging the series so that he can milk more money out of his readers, like the prequels he releases how can he get away with charging people money for an overly long blurb.
If you have not already been snared in the trap that is the WOT I suggest that the next time you see it in a book store run for the hills and never look back.

Got to agree. Like most people I liked the early books, and have become more dissilusioned, to the point that i haven't bothered buying book 10. I now fully intend to wait till the series is finished before buying any more, then get the rest and read the set. perhaps the overall narrative will work better if the story is complete.
Also, I probably won't bother with New Spring - stop writing f***ing prequels and finish the damn story mister, or i'll send the flying monkeys after you.

You know, for some reason I'm actually quite looking forward to this book now. Maybe it's because the end's in sight, but I think I'll probably be getting this book. So can anyone tell whether I actually need to read Crossroads of Twilight which I avoided? Did anything actually happen in it or is it as bad as everyone says?

Well...He's an interesting one
I think his point, aimed at me, was that I didn't get what he was saying because I didn't appreciate the his subtly nuanced Jordanesque phrasing.
I did notice the bad pastiche, but as what he was using it to say pretty much amounted to "Yah, Boo, Sucks!" I really didn't see the point.
*sigh* I'm sure he feels better for having told me off, though.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Yeah, but Gemmell's novels are all stand-alone novels. Not quite a series.

He may like the writer as a person, but not his writing. RJ sounds like a nice guy, I just can't stand his work. *shrug*

Where does this 'Jordayne of the Tor' appear in aSoIaF?
If I hadn't read the last 3 books, I'd still love the series. The last book was just too much! I was soo disappointed! So many pages for soo little axn!
I'm a bit iffy abt the series...

Well, the last few books have been slipping steadily, but i'm still praying (and sacrificing the odd virgin goat) in the hopes that WoT can return the level it started on. Either way, i've invested so much time and money in it at this stage that i'll be there til the end, however long that takes.

Jordayne of the Tor is a Dornish house whose crest is a golden quill on green checks. The first reference to the house is in the fifth Tyrion chapter in Storm of Swords (p. 429 US TP. CH. 29)
Myria Jordayne, heir to the Tor, is part of the Red Viper's retinue that meets Tyrion, Bron, and Pod. We never meet her father.
This allusion to RJ and Tor fantasy doesn't necessarily mean that the writing of RJ influenced Martin. After all it didn't appear to the third book and by then RJ had already made favorable comments about ASOIAF that were quoted in A Game of Thrones.

Started off well enough but there has been a steady decline since book 5 to almost the level of Fiest's Jimmy the Hand and let me tell you thats a pretty steep incline!

Um I should eat my words from earlier posts but I bought New Spring. Mostly because i needed a read for the train and it was only 7$. Not awesome but the writing style reminds me of why I like Jordan in the first place. I might see this thing through.
