I saw the comparitive numbers for professional footballers in Italy and New Zealand on the New Zealand Herald website. Italy- 3,541 New Zealand- 25. Kind of shows the magnitute to the shock, huh.

Au revoir mes amis! That has to be one of the most spectacular falls from grace in recent years. Not only did France bow out meekly, but Dominech managed to embarrass himself at the end into the bargain. For a World Cup that started out so boring it is fairly heating up now.

Can someone refresh my memory, did Zidane play in 2002? I'm recalling he didn't. There seems to be a common theme to these past two flame-outs.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

you're right.
1998: he's in, they win it.
2002: out due to injury in first two games.
due to piss poor results (loss to Senegal, draw with Uruguay) they put him in before he was fully fit.
wasn't enough, they still lost.
out in group stages.
2006: he's in, they go to final (and the legendary headbutt to finish his international career)
2010: he's out (retired) and out they go.

Sad that we're out, but a five goal swing was just too much to hope for. A win over France is a pretty sweet consolation, even if it was the B-team with only 10 men. France is probably the only team who'll be more embarassed than we are to be out in the first round

Wow. The fan-park went crazy after South Africa scored the second goal. I saw women cartwheeling topless, it was NUTS!
just aswell we got knocked out, had we actually managed to go through I would worry for my moral safety
