I was talking about fans, not the players....
If people try to flee N-K with some regularity, they apparently also do not mind calling down the wrath of Kim Jong-Il, so why would that be different?

If anything, stepping onto a plane to SA with your wife and children (while very costly no doubt for an entire family) seems a much better, more comfortable and healthier plan of escape than trying to cross the sea to Japan in a self built canoe, or navigate the minefields to S-K.

Wow Can't believe this is the first time I read this thread.

Being in SA means all you do is World Cup, IT IS MANIC!

Basically I am impressed korea pulled the result they did.
unfairly ranked in my opinion. South Africa is ranked 85th
Korea 105th but based on play by either team I think they
deserve a 70-80 seat. Since I'm here I might aswell ask you
guys if you have a top three underdogs list yet?

IMO the unlikely favourites are Ghana, South Korea and USA
in no particular order. Im pleased SA didn't embarass themselves
and brazil are showing a lil more of the magic I tend to miss.
This world cup is pleasing me immensely.

Yeah, noone realistically expects bafana to beat people 50+ rankings ahead of them. They held their own against mexico, hopefully they do the same again against Uraguay tonight. If they get to the knock-out stages I think everyone in SA will be pretty damn proud of them. I am impressed with how much better they are playing than they did in the past, we've finally moved away from the selfish 'I'm going to try dance past four defenders on my own' playstyle that always used to plague our football.

You do have to admit though that that playstyle made for some spectacular eyecandy. You could see the love for the game through it, which I can hardly ever see in europeans these days.

I'm enjoying the Chile game immensely now. As far as winning the tournament they're certainly an outsider. But if they continue the way they played the first half, they might (MIGHT) surprise everyone.

@ Alt: thats true. There is a better aspect of teamwork and I am thoroughly impressed. in time they will probably do better and better. I do agree with gothos though, brazil received similar criticism. The lack of flair in the current game of soccer is really alarming. teams are far more solid on the field without it but I think the spirit of trick-flick play is a heavy price to pay.

A bit of flair has its place, but only on top of good fundamentals. I think that's the reason Brazil has historically always been the best team in the world - they have the teamwork and passing of a european team, as well as the skill to beat a defender man on man.

Man, South Africa showed quite clearly that they are the least capable team playing this World Cup. That game wast atrocious. Uruguay played like a bunch of old women yet they danced around SA without any problem.

Just imagine. Mexico and Uruguay qualifying from group A. It will be awesome.

As of now I'm thinking Germany or Argentina as the likeliest winners, however Spain still has a strong team and may yet win their group.
