Congrats on not dying Assail! I'm glad you are still enjoying it, it would really suck if after going through all that you realized this wasn't what you really wanted!

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Somehow we need to get the word to his fellow Marines that his nickname is "Fluffy". :)

@AIJ - LOL, nice to type to you again also, friend! Malazans? Pfft, they've got it rough, but they've got nothing on the Corps. The USMC makes them look like bitches :)

No homocidal lizards with swords though, right?

I'm told they're still around, then again, I'm not in the Army, so I don't know for sure. Definitely, there is that, but I bet you any money some kids pulled it lol.

Oh here's a couple of pictures. My picture the USMC took of me and something that the Aussie's might appreciate a little bit more than others haha.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Haha. I get a lot of shit from the American's, but what the fuck would they know about my Aussie pride? I'll get my 'moto' tat as they call it after my first deployment I think. Moto being motivational tattoo, to show your dedication to the Corps and all that horse shit. But yeah, they give me shit but they think it's tight. I love it, myself haha.

Got a little time off for Christmas and stuff and thought I'd come and give an update for anyone who might give a shit haha. Life's good, I certainly can't complain. I'm just about finished up with my 0331 Machine Gunner course. Firing the M2 .50 cal was an arousing experience to say the least, not to mention the MK19 Automatic Grenade launcher. I got my orders recently, I'll be shipping out to Hawaii on the 16th of January, 2010. I'm excited for it I suppose, would have preferred to stay closer to home but whatever. I'll be there for 5 months, then my unit, including myself, will be deploying to Afghanistan for 6-8 months. Life is looking good, I wish I still had enough time to read, I'm about to die with DoD being released in the U.S. the 19th of January. Just got an Amazon Kindle for Christmas, and though it takes away from the book reading experience a little, it's still badass. I'm a huge fan and it's a hell of lot cheaper than buying the books themselves. I recommend it to anyone out there, just to let you know. So for the people who used to interact with me, how are you? :p

What does a Marine do on Hawaii? Patrol the beaches and shoot litterbugs?

Hawaii? You poor bastard, my deepest condolences. :p

Good to hear you're doing well though. Nice tat tho - I'd say it's very distinctive in the USMC. Take care, jarhead. :p

Assail, how you handling the gear side of things? I know standard issue has to be taken along, but soldiers here and there have figured out what works better in certain situations.

If need be, I can point you to a good place for advice and tips from some current and ex-military (a wide variety of grunts, sailors, Marines and SF).

Read up all the geopolitics and info you can on approximately where you'll be posted. The Long War Journal is a pretty good site to read for that.
