Hello all!

I just joined today, and after a long search for a character name that wasn't taken, I have found one (I think) :p I am definitely an Erikson-addict, and, as only a couple of my friends are reading the series, I was in desperate search of fellow Malazan fans. This seemed the place to be. Just finished DoD last week, and have been hooked on this series since roughly four years ago. Hoping to make my way around the forums over the next little while, see you all around :o

To be clear, a Malazan name isn't required, but The Cartographer was one of my favorite minor characters in the entire series. It made little sense in the beginning, but the interludes grew on me.

Welcome to the forum.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Hey all!

I just recently got into the Malazan Book of the Fallen (read Gardens of the Moon between Christmas and New Year's), and it is now my favorite fantasy series, bar-none. Unfortunately, I've got exactly one friend who reads speculative fiction, and he mostly reads Sci-Fi, so I don't really have anyone among the people I know to discuss fantasy with. Pretty glad I found this place.

Hello All, long time lurker, first time poster.

Been reading the series for a long time, just recently re-read all of them after reading Dust of Dreams, lots of information, don't know anyone else who reads these books, so ya, also glad to have found this site.

Hello All!

While waiting for the next book of the Song of Ice and Fire I decided to try some other fantasy authors and just by chance came by the Malazan Book of the Fallen. First two books made an impression of an extremely colorful and wonderfully complicated multidimensional jigsaw puzzle that is hard to put together but impossible to put aside. I’m in the middle of MoI and I think I have enough understanding of the characters and their motives to make a few favorites.

That actually made me register on this board – I found the thread with the subtitle “Anomander Rake is a wussy” and my immediate reaction was: I’m going to show them how to diss my favorite old son!... Posted Image only to realize my mistake afterwards…

Anyway, I’m glad to join, because I’m cursed with the friends who don’t read any fantasy so I’ll be happy to discuss books with you and at least to read what people with the better understanding of the series have to say. Cheers!

BTW, I’m ELS so I have to apologize in advance!Posted Image
I must lose myself in action, lest I wither in despair.

Hello everyone!

I've visited these forums occasionally while reading this most fantastic series. I'm about half-way through Dust of Dreams at the moment and I have to say the Malazan series (including Esslemont's books) is my favourite book series of all time. From the moment I picked up GotM as a curiosity I've been hooked, and even dropped Song of Ice and Fire after book 2, so I could go through the Malazan books faster.

Looking forward to discussing the books (and why not random topics too ) with all of you.

Hi all,

Wanted to formalize my introduction to the boards. Long time lurker, but I recently finished RotCG and DoD back to back and figured, now that I'm done with my first read through, it was time to emerge from the shadows. I've already thrown up a few posts in the DoD and tCG forums, but I plan on spending a lot more time in the open here, so I wanted to say howdy. I started lurking around on here back when I was reading MT and reading y'all's thoughts (while carefully avoiding spoilers... mostly) really helped me stay sharp and keep my thoughts organized. I'm going to give myself a month or so off and then dive into my first re-read.

Anyway, glad to be here, be seeing y'all around.

I'm curious as to what sort of fate worse than death can lure you back to a forum and make you register :D

The only fantasy in your town bookstore was Terry Goodkind?

Could be Ejército Libertador del Sur (Liberation Army of the South), I didn't know that these guys are still around, though. :D
(or maybe Evangelical Lutheran Synod... but nahh, I think he fought in the Mexican Revolution)

Hello all. I've been lurking here for the last six months or so.
I guess I am not the first member to have discovered Steven Erikson's wondrous books of the fallen due to George R.R. Martin spending his time blogging about NFL and trying to sell water-damaged goods instead of finishing A Dance with Dragons.

I tried to read Gardens of the Moon a few years back, but at the time it just didn't do anything for me. It was hard to get into - again, I suspect I am not alone in this Posted Image

As I've gradually become more and more fed up with Martin's procrastination and the lack of spectacular fantasy novels (Best Served Cold by Abercrombie excepted, that one was hilarious) I tried Gardens of the Moon one more time, this time forcing myself to finish it. Still sceptical, I bought Deadhouse Gates and from here on things have improved for each book I've read so far; Memories of Ice was better, and House of Chains was the book that had me hooked. I am about 500 pages into Midnight Tides now, and that one strikes me as decidely different in tone than the first four. Still, the banter between Tehol Beddict and Bugg has me suitably entertained none the less.

Now, in search for answers ...

I think it's an international student at a U.S. university studying English as a second (or third or fourth etc.) language: http://en.wikipedia....anguage_Centers

Although, I hope it's the Mexican Revolution option.

Greetings, I fell into this series on accident while I was overseas. I saw Gardens of the moon just lying on an empty table in a cafe or something. I liberated it from it's plane of imprisonment, and have been in and out ever since. I hope to meet like minded people, or at least some truly knowledgable types as the series comes to an end and they start offering Lit courses on The Malazan Book of the Fallen.

I am new and from the UK!

Fascinating novels, read 1st 3 a year ago, and just picked up the 4th.
All rented though, on recommendation from some guy on a forum :)

After such a long break though, I want to read 1-3 again!
Can people recommend me the best pace to buy them in the UK?
Waterstones? eBay?
