Greetings. I have just found this site/forum while looking for map images. Looks like a great community. I am currently reading tCG so therefore nearly done my second time through MBotF - IMHO the best fantasy series ever produced.

The best way is to go in publication order - Gardens of the Moon, hop to a mostly parallel storyline in Deadhouse Gates, go back to the first storyline in Memories of Ice, then House of Chains.
You can read Night of Knives at any point after the first book (I recommend reading it after Midnight Tides, but it's not crucial) and then come back here to ask for advice on reading order.

I know this is an extremely late reply, but as a veteran Malazan reader, I strongly disagree with the notion that reading the books by order of publication is the best way to go.
The one thing I believe should be respected is the authors' wish to start with GotM and decide right there if you want to continue.
My suggested reading order if you want a smoother narrative flow is this one:
GotM>MoI>DG>MT>HoC>TBH>RG>RotCG>TtH>DoD>TCG>NoK>SW>BaB>OST>A.

Good morning everybody!
I am now re-reading Malazan Series, after failing to do so first time few years ago (stopped after House Of Chains).
While reading I am creating a digital map of main characters travel routes. I hope that in a few weeks I will be able to show first results here.
Cheers

Hi yoyek, welcome.
Sounds like a cool project. With the amount of wandering in the series you'll have your work cut out for you.
Some other members have placed their map-related work in threads in the General Books-->Art subforum.

I challenge you to explain how NoK after TB makes more sense than before.

You are confusing narrative flow with chronological event order. Placing MT before HoC is narrative flow madness. NoK that far down the line makes no sense whatsoever either. I think you are trying too hard to live up to your contrarian moniker here.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Believe it or not, reading MT before HoC worked wonders for me and made me feel more engaged in the story.

Stumbled onto this site while searching for Malazan artwork, specifically Anomander Rake, Caladan Brood, Icarium, & Tool, for wallpapers and the like. Currently in the middle of reading Memories of Ice for the first time. This has quickly become one of my favorite series!

Welcome - we do have some glorious artwork around, but it's not spoiler protected in any way so please proceed carefully.
The Memories of Ice subforum might be a good place to ask for links. If you post where you're at the responses should respect that.
