At about what stage in life does it go from being a badge of honour to being an embarrassment?

I think I am approaching it, or passed it some time ago. I am going out with work people tonight and I can't afford a repeat of last time :p

"The most drunk person at the party" is not that bad.
"The ONLY drunk person at the party" is an embarrasment. I swear every time it happened to me I wanted to murder those bitches afraid of alcohol that think it's okay to make fun of you while you're still hungover.
Kif: Sir, remember your course correction?
Captain Zapp: No.
Kif: Well, it's proving somewhat more suicidal than we'd initially hoped.

being the drunkest person at the party remains a badge of honour throughout life.
so long as you don't puke everywhere its an achievement to be proud of, once the vomiting commences however you immeadiately lose points.
only an amusing puke will keep you up there. One of my friends was sick all over the headmasters desk, headmaster and our year head. Immediate legend status

I think it's when you have kids.

Since I'm never going to have kids (at least not ones that I will be raising) This is not a problem for Apt.

I think it also has something to do with the social cirkle you're in. Upper-middle class/well educated - drunk when you're 30 is a no-no because we can't have people vomiting on the new IKEA furniture. Lower-middle class/gradeschool education - WEEEEEEEE!!!

The above is off course grose stereotypes, but there is something to it. Especially our parents generations. But of course, at least in Denmark, back then everyone drank like Carlsberg was about to go out of business. It was even popular to brew your own beer, wine and spirits.

For me the most drunk at the party generally equates to also being the most loud and obnoxious so it's never a good thing.

I can't wait to see what Mezla gets up to tonight.

Watch out for her being abusive in the DB at around midnight. She has previous.

Apt's got the right idea. You youngsters have no idea of the social isolation threatening the older drunk :p I'm not talking about vomitting or inappropriate nudity here. When you get to my age, that's all water under the bridge. I'm talking about the tendancy the older drunk has for getting ranty and saying things that they really shouldn't to those they are obliged to have continued adult relationships with. Where you wake up the morning after and the over-riding emotion is no longer self-satisfied elation (slightly tempered by a bit of a headache) but utter shame and self-contempt (made worse by a raging headache, hot sweats and upset stomach) instead. Or is that just me :p

When you're a woman, it's the point when your hair instantly transforms to looking like you've dragged your head through a bush and make-up looks like you've just smeared the contents of your handbag over your face. With this new look, the lady in question proceeds to communicate only through shouting and screeching, a glass of wine always in hand (slopping everywhere as she lurches round the room), wild dancing and telling people "you love this song" and dancing manically to it, picking a fight with your other half over some instance he left the toilet seat up 2 years ago, and crying irrationally through frustration at no discernible reason.

I know one girl who was like that by age 17, God knows what she's like now. But you always see a woman (at least one) like this at a party, and everyone always mutters under their breath "Jesus, what a fucking mess, someone should take her the fuck away."

If you're a bi-sexual man it's the point at which you think barber shop comb-washing fluid tastes like polygamy.

If your the most drunk person at the party and its getting you down, simply find people who are much more drunk than you are and hang out with them.

Mez, I long since passed the age when I could get away with being the drunkest person at the party. That's why I smoke instead of drinking these days....oh, and I hate parties...

HA HA HA HA

Thought it would be best to reply to this quoting it and save how drunk she was before she shamefacedly tries to erase evidence of this in the morning.

Thank god. That's how I prefer my world.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
