I love the games with crazy unknown mechs. I mean it drives me insane, but isn't that the point? Why mod a game if you can't mess with players' heads? ;) But I disagree that if you die you loose, like Malease said - it's a team game and it's in the rules, otherwise M&P games wouldn't exist.

I don't complain about anything, because we are all in this for the fun of it aren't we? Modding isn't easy and (not that I would know, but I imagine it's the case) very time consuming. The person setting up the game has no reason to do make it a misery for players (other than the obligatory messing with their heads) and substitute mods have rules to follow, and there has to be trust.

Insulting P-S is part of the game provided it's good natured...but no whining...tell you what if I am playing give me a vig for the complainers - I'll sort 'em for you P-S! :killingme:
'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.

After you hit around 18 it makes it very difficult for players to keep track of everyone and the game only heats up after the numbers have been whittled down a little. Faction games generally let you play with slightly more people, as then everyone will know one or two people on their team. 16 - 18 was the preferred number for a while here, but with the influx of new players the games have gotten bigger. The constant mini idea may help alleviate that and make for more focused normal games.

I mean the LOTR game has like 25 players and has a lot of mechanisms behind it, the game was a nightmare and a dream to run at the same time! The only reason why it worked so well, was that me and goe spent a good half a month to a month tweaking it here and there till it felt right. And we had to go with a 36 hour day and 12 hour night, just to be able to go through the material being sent and sort it out.

Also I should add that me and goe might run LOTR here possibly after uni starts!

That a reasonable number,

so basic set up would be 3 scum rest inno i take it?

General King

I can't remember where I read this, but I saved it. It's a pretty good way to think about low tmdi games.

Q: How many scum are in my current standard game?
A: A good ratio to use is 1 scum to 3.5 innocents. (Neither rounded up nor down)

Through lots of games played on the internet on sites that play hundreds of games a year this is pretty much the guideline. It's also an easy way to try and balance a game. You assign points to each person in the game and add up sides. So in a basic meat and taters 8 person game it'd look like the following;

2 scum x 3.5 = 7 points
6 innocents x 1 = 6 points
ratio = 3

So we can see that town is at a slight disadvantage here. How do we fix that? We assign powers to the town. Powers increase the worth of an average townie. A finder may be worth 2.5 points, a healer worth 2 points. Every mechanic you introduce usually gives some advantage to the side that has it. There are of course exceptions. We've already seen that double vote could be strong, but it doesn't really add that much to the innocent team. It may only be worth 1.5 for innocents, however it would be almost broken for scum, so it maybe a 6 power for a scum.

QUOTE (morgoth45)
That's been established as scientific fact. For those of you who are familiar with science, you know it proves nothing conclusively as there can always be an anomaly, but a scientific law is something that is true 90% of the time.

back on topic and away from the whole circle jerk back slapping you all stumbled on, there has been a growing level of whinging i noticed during the games and it does get very annoying when modding when in a high tmdi game players are complaining as they think they know what should be happening. there should be a level of trust between players and the mods, constant whingeing just makes the mods less likely to be attentive. equally signing up and not playing is very frustrating when someone has tried to craft a game.

and it cant be a list when it has only one name on it ;)

discussing mechanics with the mod behind the scenes is fine in my opinion. on thread whingeing and then sending the same crap to the mods is beyond the pale and should stop.

I refuse to have a serious conversation about WHINING, with someone who refuses to spell the word properly. (Im a big bag of dicks)

On topic. Yes, small M&P would be nice, but might keep mods from getting co-mod help from the dead.

Guys, this isn't about specific lists or grudges you have. This is about if we want to change some of the dynamics of how we mod and how we play.

As I don't whine to the mods about shit when I am playing...and I refuse to change the way I play or mod I think we can close this thread.

vengyou dont whine, you bombard ;)

That's different though....It is almost always about other people my...thoughts...never about how the game is set up. I rarely care about a set up....Unless I am modding or have made the game. Then I care a lot.

I do like it when lots of people die though. I think that it increase the enjoyment and the speed of the game.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

I've always assumed that as soon as you're in SH and you help mod, you are supposed to handle being neutral. I haven't noticed any other behavior either, but maybe I'm blind or something. ;)

in my opinion the best number is 12-13

I think that for higher Tmdi games that are going to have a body count then around 20. More and it is just irritating for everyone.

People root for certain teams but yeah they should be neutral when they mod.
