I've begun to realize something.
I was going through the twilightsucks.com forum and I realized that a good many of these people are anime/manga fans.
Considering that manga/anime is on several points identical to twilight, I find it hilarious. Irony strikes once again.

Only a very stupid anime/manga fan would try to argue that all of it is good. Twilight does definitely have a number of features in common with some types/examples of anime and manga, and is probably liked/disliked by some people for the same reasons as said sub-genres and particular examples. Certainly the whole 'clumsy girl acquires entourage of gorgeous supernatural people/beings, several of whom fall in love with her' plot has been done in anime and manga, Fushigi Yuugi being a good example - people sometimes complain about that series' heroine in much the same way people complain about Bella.

You, sir, have to die. Now.

I second this motion.

Explanation please? Do I have to die just for not hating all anime and manga? Or for not conforming to your personal opinions in some other unfathomable way?

I actually have nothing against anime and manga. I just want to kill you for entertainment purposes. Surely, as a manga fan, you should understand.

It would be a very bad idea. Do you value your soul? If so you will steer clear of Twilight.

What DW said. A brave few of us have watched it, at the behest of a female. We were doomed from the beginning, we can help others though!

Don't watch it!
I still heart Goodkind.

I hate to say it, but this thread might have convinced me to read the books. It's been a while since I had a book or author to hate on the internets, and this might fit the bill. I want to join in the bashing, but am morally opposed to bashing a book I have never read. I fully expect it to be awful, but then I will be informed and therefore have the right to bash to my heart's content. I got through all but two of goodkind's books for the same reason.

There are other ways of being informed on the contents and prose of a book wihout having to read it.
I've read the entries on Wiki and four different synopsises (two massively anti and the other two were on Twilight fan sites). The excerpts on either side are abound.
Not to mention I know many people who have read it (they all liked it) and have they're testomonials to work off, as well as two people who read it due to mitigating circumstances and filled me in on the subject.
Granted there's more research required, and if I truly wanted to write a Κατα-φρονεω on the subject then yes I'd read the books. I am not a Heresiologist and thus would prefer to occupy my time reading other things.

I thought I was the only one who managed to complete more of Shitkinds books (than is good for any sane person) and still hated the bastard. So...are you also into self flagellation? I know a good flail seller.

I finished the whole series. Ordered Confessor the day it was released, in fact. :p

Although I don't hate the series and the man. I think his philosophy is silly and he does get preachy, but he's still someone who made an absurd living off of it. And I have to respect that.

Oh yes it can. Take a look at that Cracked script parody I linked on the first or second page.

Very good point RLY, but once you start...it gets addictive :p

Sixty, you have always come across as a sensible mature avid reader with a wide variety of tastes and a generel air of goodness, way to go on hiding the insanity.

I must admit that I carried on reading his books way past it was really necessary and they are readable...just leave you feeling empty and angry and wanting to murder people and eat the flesh of your enemies. there is no doubt that he can write, but its utter drivel. He's made money from it? Sold lots ofd books? Just goes to show how silly people can be. The sun newspaper is from front cover to back a bunch of distortions, outright lies, bigotry, fanning of flames, a nice pair of titties and some sports...It outsells everything else by some margin (last time I looked) Its still utter shite. And you are better off not reading it. I am of the opinion that Goodkind is very similar. And I will refrain from ever twilighting cos of the people on this board. Thank you for saving me.

Thanks and you're welcome.

TBH half the reason I read Goodkind is that a friend told me, "there's sex in it!" and I was all "LOLWUT" and proceeded to read it. Then it had mindless action/violence that's somewhat well written, so I kept going. (Keep in mind that I was in sixth grade at the time)

On the other hand, I was extremely pissed at the last book's ending. Can you say lame?
Spoiler alert:
Spoiler

But I'll refrain from further contemplating Goodkind's writing, because it'll defile what modicum of sanctity it retains in my mind. I'd hate to loath him as much as you guys do. :p

and so, on the 22nd of may,

the well loved forum member Bent was lost to us.

what returned, whilst still Bent-like, was not the Bent of old.

We, his closest friends, mourned the apparent deep psychological scarring that occurred when our
close comrade decided to attempt a perilous quest.

Despite numerous warnings from others who had ventured forth on the same journey,
Bent was unwilling to heed cries for caution, and proceeded on his travels to view the abomination.

Now, as a sufferer from PTVT (post twighlight viewing trauma) Bent needs our help,
and i ask all of Bent's friends to send me money to help pay for his future care.

I insist that all payments be in the form of cash, preferably GBP (that's punds sterling for those who don't know)
and i promise, hand on heart that all funds will be used exclusively for the funding of my next computer the
treatment of our dear friend.

This important message brought to you by the get coco a new computer twighlight trauma treatment fund.
meh. Link was dead :(

There are a lot of similarities between anime/manga and Twilight - mainly there's a lot of creepy stalking, rape and the whole "clumsy girl acquires entourage of gorgeous supernatural people/beings, several of whom fall in love with her" trend. And there is a completely rabid fanbase. DW I think was pointing out the irony that anime/manga fans hate on Twilight when they have so many similar elements.

And I pointed out that the traits which Twilight certainly does share with *some* anime/manga are not shared by *all* anime/manga. Just like not all English-language fantasy books are like Twilight (thank Mother Dark). If a fan of anime/manga came here hating on fantasy books in general because of Twilight, I assume they'd be swiftly set right by people pointing out that (for example) the Malazan books share none of the qualities Twilight is reviled for. In the same way, while there is certainly a sub-genre of anime/manga where some of Twilight's traits are quite common (not surprisingly, that would be the sub-genre aimed at the same demographic), there are plenty of examples of anime/manga series that are about as much like that kind of stuff as the MBotF is like Twilight (i.e. not at all).

This post brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department who have brought you this post in their redundant capacity as the Department of Redundancy Department.
I think malazan is a pretty cool guy. eh kills well-loved characters and doesn't afraid of anything.

just heard of twilight series today among the teen girls in the youth class I lead. it cracked me up.

Odd thing is BUFFY books were horrible but I could stand them coz they did mythic creatures some innovative justice, The angelus\angel character led to one of the best vampire tv shows ever so I even forgave the series' need to insist on teenage heartache stories. this twilight story on the other hand is to vampires what salt is to snails, pure dillution of a rather popular fictional construct.

I fear reading it hopefully no one de-sexes me into it ey mappo :p

@KeithF: TBH the only 2 animes I've ever seen and enjoyed (Death Note and Code Geass) had an equal quantity of appeal to that rabid fangirl demographic.

Although both had great merits as well.
