DEADBEAT trumps PROVEN GUILTY because
Spoiler
.

I love the movie refs in every book. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc. Someday someone will make me happy and prepare a complete list of them.

- Abyss, ..."Make it so."

I don't know, I found Proven Guilty to be much better than Dead Beat. Sure, a

is awesome, and I even grew up loving
Spoiler
but Proven Guilty had so much more better stuff going on in it:

So much better than Dead Beat.

Tarcanus, show button overload because who knows who reads these things?

Good to hear. I've been pretty meh about the series up until Dead Beat. With
the exception of Summer Knight, which I thought was excellent. I'm about 70%
into Dead Beat and it is awesome. Looking forward to Proven Guilty taking it to
the next level.

reckon i preferred Dead Beat over Proven Guilty, thought Proven Guilty took abit of time to get going! White Knight another cracker!

Now that I finished Dod... :D I need something to draw my attention off the grief.

Haveing now read all 12 books within the last month, I found the books very entertaining but some things are kinda annoying (to me) from time to time.
Example would be where dresden casts like 1 or 2 spells then is dead tired and can hardly do anything anymore (magic dosnt seems like such a huge advantage compared to guns either in dresdenverse, If I were dresden I would just use defensive magic and unload with assault rifles etc since they seem to do as much dmg if not more then his fire spells and you dont get tired for nothing).

The other thing is that dresden seems to learn real slow, you would think for a guy with as much combat experience as him he would handle himself better in a fight (especially vs other vanilla mortals whom he always seem to struggle against). Granted he does improve over the books wich is a good thing.

Butcher also made some of the most fun characters to read about, like murphy, mouse, lea, mab etc...

Spoiler

At the subject of the best book I cant say for sure but I liked most of the later books alot more then the earlier ones. Dead beat, proven guilty, small favor, turncoat and changes were all good reads though there were afew flaws here and there.

That "Murphy's law field" that wizards seem to create would make it pretty hard for Dresden to use a (semi-)automatic weapon. That is why he favors revolvers. If used something like an M4 or P90 it could jam at the most inoppertune moments.

yeah true but then Ramirez is always seen equiping semi automatics and even grenades. And if I remember correctly it is stated somewhere in the books that the field projected is some kind of electro magnetic field. If so there are alot of materials that can be used besides steel/iron that can be used to construct guns... but its fiction anyway with magic so I will just have to accept that he uses fire spells instead of assault rifles and gets tired alot :D altough as of changes

Guns are for people who can't make shit blow up with their minds.

Tho Euler is right that the field doesn't bollox all automatic weapons. Probably just extremely sophisticated ones.

Also, Dresden comments every so often that guns won't stop most of the creepy crawlies he deals with.

- Abyss, ...so basically, guns don't kill people, vampires kill people. And spells kill vampires.

I must say I always thought that the television series was rather well done. So what you folks would be saying is that I should read these books? Yes?
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Yes isnt emphatic enough.

They are 112% pure unadulterated awesome.

As a whole, the first couple are just good.

The series gradually improves from 'good' to 'great' to 'automatic pre-order hardcover super fast shipping isn't fast enough holy fuck wow'.

And imnsho the tv series was never more than a thin replica. If you liked that, you'll likely LOVE the series.

You left out the "Will open the book, read a bit and then proceed to do everything else in your life as quickly as possible, just so you can get back to the book and finish as quickly as possible." It's like literary crack - except satisfying.

To me, the series started out at good with Storm Front (the first book) and then jumped right into awesome with the second book. Since then, it's built upon that to deliver non-stop awesomeness.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Are there EBook versions of any of the books? I really can't keep up with the rate at which I'm reading them, to go out to the bookstore every day.

My library seems to have most of them in e-form (up to about 2 books ago) so they must be out there somewhere.
