I played Lineage 2 for quite a while - got up to lvl 45, I think. I could never do it again unless I had 4-6 hours+ per day to devote to it. I didn't even really meet anyone interesting, either. My biggest problem with MMOs is the lack of a single player experience. I haven't seen one yet where you can successfully level yourself to max by yourself without resorting to hours of grinding because there are no quests or finally breaking down and joining parties.

There's nothing wrong with getting into parties and whatnot, but I always found myself online when no one else is, so I resorted to ridiculous grinding because nearly all quests require fighting, and certain classes just aren't meant for fighting (I played a Bishop). I just want the option to have a fully single player experience in a world where every other character moving around is another person who may or may not hinder my quest or whatnot.



Also, I've never understood why so many people lump Zelda games into the category RPG. Yes, you play the role of Link - but in every game you play the role of one character or another - but the LoZ games lack most of the usual RPG staples: leveling, numerical stats, and other party members. LoZ is much more adventure than RPG.

6. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (glitches galore!!! but still enjoyable.)


Now if only they would combine all these into 1 truly apocolyptically cool game with a GODLIKE storyline. . .

I can't understand why you pu KotOR1 above KotOR2... that doesn't make sense!
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

The gameplay might be better in 2, but the story in 1 is waaaaaay better. And Kreia's just annoying, IMO.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Kreia is one of the best villains in gaming history ;)

I'll agree that Kreia is annoying, but which story is better depends on your taste. Personally, I think the

story in KotOR 1 is as cliched, predictable and boring as it can get. Because every one of us can name at least 10 movies with some if not all those plots.

The story in KotOR 2 is okay, even though the ending is shitty. Because you can choose not to give a fuck about everyone around you.

EDIT - oh, I forgot. Morrowind. Because it's one of the few games where I got the feeling you don't get everything on a silver platter - there are many things you have to work out yourself, but the result is very rewarding.
Also VtM Bloodlines.

I'm with Kurt! FF3 (american title, FF6 in Japan) is most definitely the best RPG I've ever played. Huge world, lengthy story that remains engaging, fun but unique battle system, lots of optional exploration and sidequests and the story has plenty of emotional impact varying from laughing out loud to very sad (I think i might've cried at one point the very first time I played it). It may be an FF but there's only one anime cliche (one of the 15 playable characters is a magic pokemon-like thing). And Kefka is the best villain of all video game history according to the reader's choice edition of Gamespot's top-10 video game villains. I agree, of course!

I agree with Chill also, the ending sequence was cool, but the very end was shitty. Unless they were going to do another picking up from that point its pretty worhtless.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

I'm amazed how much FF7 was mentioned, especially out of a series which, in my opinion, has 4 much better titles. I guess it's because FF7 had the best storyline, with the most powerful impact in delivery - but it was far from the best gameplay in the series which, when you think about it, is what really counts in a video game.

My favourite RPG of all time would probably have to be FF Tactics for the PS1 (not the dreadful GBA version). That is followed closely by FF6 (FF3 in North America I guess).

to each his own I guess. i prefer a good storyline to great gameplay. for instance, take Legacy of Kain: Defiance. due to how the camera and controls work, some places are just HELL to play through. but the story and characters save the game and make it awesome.
