He's definitely, definitively not white.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Maybe cause im on the 3rd book and missed something, but why are we so sure? I vagualy remember a mentioning of darker skin but i thought they said like tanned dark.

No, they're specifically mentioned as black.
