Second set of Malazan portraits featuring the dynamic duo that is Quick Ben and Kalam Mekhar. They're possibly my most favourite characters from the books. I've recently started picturing the books in my head as a feature film and after watching Lost and Heroes excessively I have found the perfect real life representatives of these two Seven Cities natives, and used reference pics of them to make this pic. Can you recognize them?

I wonder though... Is Kalam bald? I think I would have liked to see a portrait of him with the hood up.

I love it man. Kalam looks like a best. Maybe some more scars of the appearance of a rougher type of skin (Assassin and all you know). Otherwise they're freakin great

I think it's one of those things that is never mentioned one way or another, so open to interpretation. Usually I haven't been in favour of bald-Kalam, but now I do believe I am changing my mind!

Hey all. Thanks for the replies.

Aptorian I think Kalam's hair is just one of those things everyone has their own opinions of. For some reason I always pictured him bald cause it kinda suits his goatee better and this way he also forms a baldy duo with Quick. :p
Assail I was thinking of adding some scars to him, but then I figured he's probably been force healed from most of his wounds so there wouldn't be many visible scars. So I left him without them and I think that will add to his aura of undefeat since it seems no weapon has ever touched him.
KalamMekhar Full body art coming as soon as I get around to it. Could be hours, could be weeks, I really don't know.
Ain't_It_Just_ Yup that's one giant chocolate egg. Don't blame me for that, blame Jimmy. :p

They look fantastic. If there is a full picture of Kalam I would make make it look like he was wearing chainmail under his shirt. The books always describe Kalam as being an assassin with a bit of extra strenght and I think that's part of what makes him such a cool and unique character.

Anyway excellent job.

No worries. You know right after I added my reply I thought the same thing. The unblemished face kind of speaks of his almost invulnerability when it comes to martial aspects. Personally I can kind of picture him with some minor scars, but my statement still stands, excellent work.
