Oh, of course. But you at least understand my dilemma.

(I woke myself up from the sobbing, incidentally)
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

On a another note, big news.

Yeah, I can't wait. Be interesting to see how they work Venom into the story, without referring to Secret Wars. That trailer was the only thing that made going to Superman Returns worthwhile...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

So, who's seen PotC already then?

I thought it was good/entertaining, and although it wasn't as laugh out loud funny as the first one, and

Spoiler

(It's not too much of a spoiler when you know there is a third one in the works, but I'll put there anyway just in case).

Johnny Depp didn't carry this one quite as much (I don't think it was quite as good a performance by him this time round). The other actors seemed a little better this time round (I thought OB was absolutely wooden in the original).

Like I said, not quite as funny in the LOL way, but there were still some very funny parts (the fight scene was pure genius IMO :D) and there were also quite a few jokes that referred to gags from the previous film. I know this because when I got home my sister/mum wanted to watch the first one again, and when I looked at it I realised how many subtle hints were slipped into this sequel.

I can't decide between this and Thank You for Smoking as my favourite film of the summer so far...both were very entertaining and far outstripped the Da Vinci Code and X-3, the other blockbusters of the summer that I have seen. It is a trifle long, but IMO it is worth it (unless you despised the first one)

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I saw it today too.
I liked it. It's more dramatic and complex than the original, with darker overtones. And you're right about the other characters, Elizabeth in particular gets a more rounded role.

But I thought Sparrow was still excellent, and his last scene of the film was class IMO, pure Jack.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

The only thing I was slightly concerned by is that I can say "The Fight Scene"... there were plenty that merited the description in the first one, but just the one major one in this. Still though, it worked really well.

I did like
Spoiler
, I thought he was quite an interesting character. Plus, he was in "The Fight Scene".

Although I didn't think that Davy Jones was a good a bad guy as Captain Barbosa (he seemed a mite too inhuman to me), you are right in saying it was darker this way.

At the start I was thinking that it had the potential to be an amazing film, and although it didn't quite keep up the pace of the first section, it still works to good effect.

I'm not sure whether to be critical of the ending or not...as an Erikson fan I suppose I should be, but I thought it left some good loose ends for the followup. I was a little surprised that

Spoiler
,

but hopefully there will still be a lot more of him in the sequel. They do a good job of keeping split storylines flowing so far, and they are going to need it for "The End of the World", or whatever the #3 happens to be called.

Yeah, I thought Davey left some to be desired. I think it was to do with his slightly whimsical execution not matching up to his complete bastardness.

I liked the idea of the ending but it seemed a little to abrupt after

Spoiler

I'm sure Three will work out. *spoilers for 2*

Ah but will our favourite captain play such a big role given that:

Spoiler

I can't get over the way that the screenwriters tried to repeat stuff from one film to the next...a few examples:

From PotC 1: WT breaks a candelabra in the Swann's house when noone is looking and hides it.

From PotC 2: They reuse the joke when ES's dad does the exact same thing in the dungeons.

From PotC 1: When JS first meets WT in the armory, he asks him in jest if he was a eunuch (it came with "you need to get a girl mate")

From PotC 2: JS tells the tribe something along the lines of "Uniky! Snip Snip! when they bring him WT.

This isn't quite the same, but "The Fight Scene" was similar in many ways to the way in which everyone was stealing everyone else's ships towards the end of #1...

There are plenty more in there if you look for them.

If you look closely the plot to PotC Deadman's Chest ain't that sound but the fact that the characters are just so much darn fun makes the movie work. Goddamn I liked it! Bring on the third one.! Not to mention the fact that they are great movies to use as an excuse to dress up...

I saw Superman. Most people didn't like it because the ending left a lasting impression on them, and it was really long and boring. But from the beginning, I knew that the only reason I went to see it was for Lex Luthor. And he didn't disappoint me at all. I fell in love with Luthor as Kevin Spacey right from the first scene (when he screwed over the whole family). And he kept it up from there. I especially loved the scene when Kitty threw a tantrum at him for almost killing her, and he was so disconnected and nonchalant about it. I was so happy when they were beating the hell out of Superman, and I knew he won the film right there. I of course, thought to myself that they made him win because films rarely let the antagonist win, and they wanted to be noticed.

But he LOST! I was so damn disappointed. He had him. He was in the winning position. I couldn't believe it. He let Superman fall off the cliff. Dammit! And Superman got uber lucky. I hate when that happens. Especially since Lex Luthor was one of my favorite villains of all time. And I'm particularly fond of Kevin Spacey too.

But I was so disappointed because nobody died. I'm not talking about main characters, I'm talking about just anybody. There were so many cases when you saw a guy falling out of a building, or a giant monument about to fall on people, or a train going off course into a crowd of people, and every time it happens I'm thinking "don't save them, don't save them, don't save them", particularly because it's Lex Luthor's doing, but he always saves them! The only casualties we saw were Lex's guys.

Anyways, I loved Luthor right to the last minute, even when he was stranded and made that comment to kitty. But I guess Superman had some cool moments too. Like the airplane.

@Lokirri: Kill your friend. (I want to kill mine, but I won't end up doing it, and you're probably more spontaneous and daring than I.)

I always wanted a Lex Luthor spin-off from Superman. Not only can I not stand Superman but someone really should kill that bl**dy reporter! I can't stand her....

@Agraba - Spontaneous is my middlename (well, as soon as the deedpoll forms come it will be) but alas, I could not kill my friend, for she is my partner in crime, hysteria, dressing up and many other things. I'd be lost in the Abyss without her.

On a completely different note, my older brother now looks like Ming the Merciless. I'm making him learn the accent, sharpen his eyebrows and wear huge capes, not to mention order people to dispatch War Rocket Ajax to bring back bodies.
