I watched Being Elmo, the doc on muppeteer Kevin Clash. It was a little bit of a hagiography, but still quite lovely overall. It focuses on his puppetry passion and not necessarily other details of his life, and is perhaps better off for it (just because we don't really need yet another tabloidy vivisection doc; the movie doesn't wholly ignore that some problems did exist). And Jim Henson is always right there around the edges, which kind of doubles the appeal right there (as is Kermit Love, btw). I'd consider it worth watching if you just like the Muppets in general, even if you don't care much for Elmo in particular. The amount of archival footage available on these folks is kind of astounding, but they seem to have always had the long view in mind. The only thing the film is missing, for me, was information on his time on Dinosaurs.

This was one of the better documentaries in Toronto's Hot Doc's Festival last year. I thought it was really good overall. Much enjoyed.

green lantern - nice cgi, but don't like the mask, the climax of the battle w/ paralax kinda felt rushed and lasted only a few minutes really,

batman begins - the best origin movie of batman, 'nuff said,

may check out snow white, but since we are only a month away, i'm really excited for amazing spider-man and dark knight rises,

MIB3- Actually quite a good film and no where near as bad as the second film. Was expecting alot worse and was thus pleasantly surprised.

Prometheus- Ive just commented on a few plot points in the Prmothes thread but this is worth a watch. Fassbender is incredibly creepy and is the best thing about this film

Just saw Deep Shardows, or Dark shadows, or whichever.

Fantastic, Burton knows how to direct a film. Deep is brilliant as usual, the entire cast is fantastic (and miss green looking devilishly hot I might add)
The music on the cliff builds suspence so unbelievably well, first time I've been leaning forward on my seat in the cinema in ages.
and the comedy moments were well timed to boot.

A. That's a LOT of films to "agree with", and I'd wager that the majority of people would agree with some and disagree with others.

B. IMDB is a cesspool of crap that can be contributed to by anyone with a computer, therefore I trust it about as far as I can throw it.

The biggest flaw that I can see with it is that The Princess Bride is only #198. Oh, and that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II is there for some reason.

I agree that our top 20 would be different but if you and I watched a filom and gave it a mark out of 10 then they could be fairly close. Now with 100's of 1000's of people doing the same thing you get a top 10 that is not your top 10 but you wouldn't argue with. I hope the table below shows. this is their top 10.

In the past this list has helped me decide to watch films like City of God and Casablanca which i'm pleased I did.

What I was thinking more along the lines of is this. For years and years The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather have been number one and two. Now they are both great films and I liked them both alot. I just wonder if they'll ever be knocked off the top. I mean The Avengers could be right up there for me. The Dark Knight would be higher too. I don't think I could watch The Godfather twice in 6 months but I definately could with the two I mentioned.

Is there a similar site that people use? Is it something we could do here on Malazan? A never ending pole where people can Rate films and see what our preferences would be? Just thinking really.

LOST IN TRANSLATION is one of the most fantastically understated films EVER. Leave aside the fact that it was shot on a teeny budget, and the cinematographer crafted absolutely GORGEOUS shots guerilla-style (this means in certain instances like in the Tokyo Subway and in Shibuya Square they were not able to get the permits to shoot in time so he would hold the camera handlheld and shoot Scarlett without anyone knowing). It's quiet, powerful and compelling. Funnily enough, Sofia Coppola unknowingly apes a very Japanese style of filmakming, and it comes off really well. Gods, I love that film.

I enjoyed The Princess Bride but my wife didn't. (I'm so happy I can say wife).

I'm not surprised, pretty much all of Sofia Coppola's films are fantastic. The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Somewhere were all brilliant and powerful movies. Wasn't all that sold on Marie Antoinette though, but then again that may be because I don't really like Kirsten Dunst as an actress.

I don't like her as an actress either. I don't know many actresses I do like. Judi Dench is one. Scarlett Johansen another maybe, i'm not sure.

Agree on all her films.

I actually like MARIE ANTOINETTE, but it's because of what she brought as a director to a period piece (not her normal forté), and not at all to do with Dunst. Dunst I've not really liked since INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE personally.

But LOST IN TRANSLATION is easily my fave. I can't watch the movie enough. I've seen it about ten times and I'd watch it ten more.
