My Neighbour Totoro is an amazing film, I'm such a fan of Studio Ghibli. My gf has the entire collection as well, but I still haven't gotten around to watching Ponyo and Arrietty yet.

Ponyo, which somehow got the biggest push I've ever seen in the US from Disney for anything Ghibli (though Arrietty did at least get commercials shown on actual television), might just be the weirdest film they've ever made. I loved every minute of it, of course, but it was bizarre in a way nothing else from the studio matches -- and it's the most aimed at kids here too, which just doubled the weirdness. Anyways, yah, you should see it.

I think I watched Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea around 30 times. I had it on every afternoon for at least a month at one point. Then two years later I saw it announced for an American release. I still can't even imagine it in english... Also, I dreamt of living in some house overlooking Tomonoura because of that movie.
And Arrietty looks really good! Reminds me somewhat of Howl's Moving Castle.

For now, I am watching Funny Games again. Love this movie.

EDIT - Wow, just going through a bunch of reviews for Funny Games and am really surprised to find it's mostly unappreciated. I would definitely recommend watching it, it's brilliant!

I kinda hated Funny Games. I liked a couple of his other films fine, but man, I do not need a scolding lecture from some self-righteous prick about the kind of entertainment I like. It might be the most spiteful, condescending movie I've ever seen.

Yeah, it did get a bit preachy when the character actually looked at the audience and asked if they'd had enough...
It had a certain charm about it though, I couldn't resist. :D

Watched American Pie Reunion. I wasnt really into the first few when they came out so didnt watch it with nostalgia googles and thought it was all sorts of meh. A bit funny in places but really preachy.

The misses loved it, though she was a big fan of the originals

James Bond SKYFALL teaser.

Oh I likes me teasers that tell me next to nothing. :D It's what teasers are for.

This gets me pumped for this (and I ALWAYS see Bond movies opening day)

i'm a little behind on movies, as i was engrossed with my time before between some animes, reading malazan and lurking the forums and other internet stuff, life fb and everything,

so there i was trying to catch up, as i was inspired and truly excited to watch avengers, that i watched incredible hulk, iron man, thor and the captain america movies, as to have background knowledge before the real deal,
i also had another superhero movie marathon, starting w/ x-men origins: wolverine, x-men, x2 and x-men 3 last stand, (which i really can't stand, you know, its awful)
then the other day i just watched x-men 1st class, as i have reservations with it, being disappointed with later x-men movies,
its ok, i guess, it was more of magneto's story than the x-men,

watching trailers for amazing spider-man and DKR, i'm getting to like emma stone, love her in easy a and zombieland,

then as i read threads here, i just finished watching sucker punch, i really like that movie,
i also watched red riding hood,
may watch more titles, as i'm excited for so many good movies to come, aside from ASM, DKR, like GI JOE:retaliation and Resident Evil:retribution,
avengers is the first movie that i watched in a cinema since harry potter 4, goblet of fire,

is there anybody here who has already watched hunger games? i'm curious if this movie is good or not, as i haven't watched it, and i really want to, but its already pulled out so many weeks now,

ok, just used the search engine, saw QT's post about the hunger games,
i may have to wait for its dvd release, as i really want to watch it,
there are those that compares THG to BATTLE ROYALE, a japanese movie,
as the premise is almost exactly the same,

@Quick Tidal - have you seen battle royale, if yes, how is THG different from it, won't ask what is a better movie, as i have a special place for BR in my heart, although not BR2,
i want to know how it identifies itself and not as they say a copy of BR,

I saw BR the first time years ago (when it was quasi-not yet released in Canada) and it's one of my fave movies of all time.

I had the same issues with THE HUNGER GAMES prior to reading the books, but it really does tackle the subject (one of young students killing one another in an arena of death) from a completely different angle. HUNGER GAMES doesn't really, therefore, crib from BR all that much aside form that basic premise...so I would not worry. Go see it.

alright, thank you QT, i'll take your word for it, yah, as i saw its synopsis, the first thing that came to my mind is BR,
that is also why i got interested in it, sadly, it wasn't on cinemas anymore when i got the desire to go see it,

is the book also good? might read it some day, when i finish my TBR pile, as i also haven't seen it in my local bookstore, may very well take special order for it,

The book series is good, with the 1st one and 3rd one being the best. 2nd one is just okay.

saw your link, haven't watched 3D, may try someday, but conflicted, due to overpriced tickets,
watched avengers in 2D, so i can't comment for now,

just saw your review on the hunger games book, hmm, so, basically the only thing that resembles THG to BR is that kids fight to the death,
ok, that's promising, will buy a copy, hope by next week,

THE HELP is excellent! Worth every accolade it earned thus far. Great story, phenomenal acting throughout.

I am currently somewhere around a 100 pages into the last book of the Hunger Games trilogy. I can definitely recommend them.

They are sort of strange books to me. They are not particularly well written, I had trouble getting into the first book. The bad guys, "the evil capitol", is this faceless menace somewhat reminiscent of a cartoon version of Big Brother and the Ministry of Love from 1984 which is very poorly constructed, and yet... for some strange reason these books are real gut punchers. They hit some kind of emotional cord inside me that has me blubbering as a schoolgirl every time something terrible or joyful happens to the main characters. The story is stupid as fuck, even for a YA novel, and yet there is something about the simplicity of the concepts layed in front of you that makes them so much more effective.

can i expect something malazan-esque in the books or even if just a little, cause that's how mostly i feel towards SE's books, it was as you said gut punchers, now you're upping my excitement,
mostly because i prefer to take the risk but if someone recommends a series, i'm really grateful and appreciative, and discover what is it about this series for them to recommend it,
thanks,
