It's only about 80 minutes so it doesn't wear out its welcome. It has maximum violence with some pretty well placed breathing room scenes to space them out. Not much space, but enough. There's a lot more martial arts work than the trailer let on, and it's very impressively choreographed. And the fights are all varied enough that it never repeats itself (without at least upping the ante quite a bit).

Just watched The Illusionist (the animated one). Netflix described it as wistful, but uh, I thought it was downright depressing. Different subject matter entirely, but it was like Grave of the Fireflies level sad for me. None of that is a negative, since that stuff suits me just fine, but this one snuck up on me.

I liked that film but got even more depressed by it when I found out that not only did Chomet make it from a semi-autobiographical script by Tati against the wishes of Tati's family who it very much affected but he partly financed it by stealing from The Tales of Despereaux (which is why he got fired from that movie). So brazenly too: he literally set up a studio for The Illusionist on the floor below Despereaux and just siphoned resources on the sly.

I think that Belleville Rendez-vous (or The Triplets of Belleville depending on where you are) is quite possibly the greatest animated film ever made but I have serious doubts whether I'm ever going to see a film by him again.

I couldn't care less about Tati's abandoned family's wishes (and Chomet isn't responsible for Tati's sins either way), but the siphoning funds thing is weird and kinda funny. That's pretty nutty.

HAdn;t heard anything about that SNOW WHITE movie, but the trailer is quite impressive looking. Can't stand the actress who plays Snow White though so that'll be a struggle for me to watch it.

At early screenings people are saying that it's an absolutely stellar film blending good battle sequences with fantasy and fairytale elements while maintaining a realistic air. Even with Kristen-I-don't-have-another-expression-Stewart in the lead.

I want to see it. Looks hardcore.

Phew, I thought i was the only one who thought she was a poor actress. Glad to hear the movie is getting good reviews. It's always a pity to see so much money and effort go into a big production which then sucks balls.


Any advance word yet on the AVENGERS movie. I really enjoyed THOR, but found CAPTAIN AMERICA to be only ok, so I'm wondering how they'll manage to deal with so many moving parts, and yet keep a consistent feel (and not feel beholden to give each character a big set-piece scene to show off their talents). I loved the movie SERENITY which had quite an ensemble, so I'm hoping Whedon will be able to manage something similarly inclusive.

Early word is that AVENGERS is flat out amazing. That it's basically being touted as Marvel's biggest success to date. It's been so buzzworthy good that DC Comics apparently asked Joss how to get a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie going.

I said it before and I'll say it again...Joss Whedon does ensemble casts RIGHT!

As for doing a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, it still baffles me that DC ousted him from the potential WONDER WOMAN movie, and then never managed to bring it to fruition. JOSS WHEDON doing a WONDER WOMAN movie seemed like the slammiest of slam dunks.

I've liked Kristen Stewart in most of the (admittedly few) things I've seen her in, namely Panic Room, Undertow, Into the Wild, and Adventureland. I did see the second Twilight movie (using Rifftrax, I promise), and it was terrible for reasons beyond any one particular performance. Range is great and all, but it's not everything if you choose the right roles.

100% agree! My eye balls were getting dry during the last half hour because I was afraid blinking would cause me to miss something! The Cabin in the Woods is a must see!
