Saw Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon last friday, about the escort home for fallen US soldiers. Despite a bit of a patriotic sauce, it was quite impressive and steered away from taking stance for/against the war.

I just watched Take Shelter.
It was really powerful, at times I was holding my breath.
I definitely recommend watching it.

Last weekend I saw "Star Wars: Uncut". It's a shot for shot remake of "A New Hope" done completely with fan made footage. Deliberately chosen to be bad quality in sound and image.
It's worth a watch once. Some parts are absolutely hilarious. Others... not so much.
I also saw a movie called "Le Grand Détournement" / "La Classe Américaine". Other than a few gags that you could find on youtube it is not worth the watch. Unless your a cinephile and like watching a movie composed entirely of scenes of other movies and in-jokes (such as having Orson Welles stating that the movie, which parodies Citizen Kane, is infringement).

Finally got round to watching Werner Hertog's latest film: "MY SON, MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE!" ...and i can absolutely say that after watching this, Micheal Shannon is gonna make a fucking great Zod in Superman.

To complete the Michael Shannon trifecta, I just watched Shotgun Stories...it was pretty awesome, and I'm really excited to check out Take Shelter now (which I heard was even better). Also gonna put My Son in my queue too, sounds awesome.

I went to watch a movie with some person the other day, we didn't know anything about any of the movies so we just took a random recommendation from the guy at the counter. He said 21 Wall Street...
I thought it might be some 'low-attention-span' action-thriller or something, but to our disgust it turned out being a 'even-lower-attention-span' comedy. It was so bad... So, so bad. We left the cinema before it ended.
Everyone I've heard talking about it say how great it is... What is wrong with humanity?
But anyway, if you haven't seen Tree of Life, you must watch this scene:
Wait for the part when the music fades out and you are left with the hollow moaning of empty space.

I loved shotgun Stories...really made me believe shannon is a top actor.
But My Son, he is just on another level of crazy, and he does it so fucking well.

Just watched Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, by Guillermo. (Same guy who did Pan's Labyrinth)
It was very similar to PL actually, not nearly as good, but worth watching.

It was co-written by Del Toro and he has a producer's credit too, but he didn't direct it. That was Troy Nixey.

If a Spanish Army Commander with his cheek sliced open and bandaged closed, doesn't take a swig of hard liquor which seeps through the cut and bandage producing what I can only assume as excruciating pain...then it definitely ain't as good as PAN'S LABYRINTH.

Oh okay. I only saw his name on the cover, so I assumed he was the director or something.
Also: I watched We Need To Talk About Kevin. I read the book a while ago, which made the movie even better for me.
The lead actress in it was amazing. Really, really good movie.

This weekend...
THE HUNGER GAMES - the lead actress was outstanding, but I wasn't a fan of the story. Never read the books, but I was told by a fellow viewer they left a LOT out.
MIRROR MIRROR - a couple flashes of wit, otherwise it felt phoned in. Julia Roberts is a good sport, but this movie confirms what I've long thought - she cannot really act.
Netflix'd PRIMER - I felt really dumb at the end of this movie. I think there were some holes in the story, but props to Shane Carruth for doing something clever on not a lot of money.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I don't know why some people keep saying that. I wonder if they are just upset that the books are POV Katniss (in her head) so not as much is represented in that regard...but they actually didn't leave much out at all. Very little in fact, and the small things they left out were utterly inconsequential.
Here is a list of the stuff left out to show you how small they are:

Agreed. They didn't leave much out at all.
I hated the book, and had completely forgotten about it, then the movie was released. When I saw it, I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked it.
It's the sort of abstraction that is better off as a live-action feature than a piece of literature.

I believe I've seen one or two pretty elaborate timeline constructions people have made for Primer, they're actually pretty intimidating. I liked it well enough, but some people are obsessed with it, at least as a hobby.
Yesterday I saw The Raid: Redemption and I have to say it was everything I wanted and more. Absolute joy from start to finish, and I give it like a full 10 out of 10 stab wounds to the torso per second. If you saw the trailer and were intrigued at all, it does not disappoint.

Oh thank god. i've been DESPERATE to see it since i saw the trailer, but at the same time terrified it won't be as batshit crazy as the trailer suggested.
meh. Link was dead :(
