Other than special effects, X-Men 3 was a huge let down. They absolutely ruined the storyline!

Spoiler

Some things that I did enjoy though were Beast, the fact that the mutants in most cases used their powers immensely for once (the scene with Jean in the house as the Phoenix is an example of uber awesome power usage). And it was good to see Iceman completely own Pyro.

At any rate, I imagine I'll end up getting the movie, because it was pretty good. Well, good if you just took it for a completely new story. In terms of being a true X-Men story though, it failed utterly. Why Marvel let them butcher the story, I'm really curious.

Some good points there Anomander. As to Nightcrawler,

Oh and I know I said it before, but wait til the credits finish to see the end. There is a small added bit at the end that makes it rather interesting...

Yeah, I was thinking as I typed it, "It's not Collossus...."

@Tiste, I heard about that end clip, and I'm still not appeased any. :(

The secret scene aside, I have to say... changes are not necessarily bad. It's a different version of the mythos, not a direct adaptation. A bit like the Ultimate (is it ultimates? the 'update') Universe for the comics. As long as they don't completely ruin the feel and idea it's all good.
That said, there were some questionable decisions, and I don't read the comics much. But the Xavier and Jean thing was okay.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Still I was quite excited about it. Does anyone know if they are doing any more films?

Yeah, so that was probably the least of the three X-Men films. Still my favourite out of all those crappy Marvel movies that have been released.

And dammit, I wanted the Lockstock (and Two Smoking Barrels) guy to have a better role. What happened to his trademark smashing a guy's head in a car door because he's super pissed routine? But he had to get foiled by a damned twelve year old girl.

I didn't like Xavier after that film. A girl in his class brought up a very insightful, and true point. And he just dismissed it by saying, "Dur, Einstein was never a mutant." Go to hell!

By the way, who else was really disappointed by that scene of Mystique's imprisonment in the truck? In the first scene, it shows the president. Then it shows a little girl, whom after playing innocent, gives the guard a death threat. Then, as if we had no clue, it gives that one last instant scene showing us that gasp, it's Mystique!!! Seriously, that one shot was a big insult to any viewer's intellect. It reminded me of the South Park scene where we see an alien receptionist with a wig, and once the characters leave, the alien takes off its wig and dramatic music plays, as if we just found out it was an alien.

By they way:

Phoenix vs Icarium, who would win?

X3.. Sooo so excited, yet left feeling totally demoralised. One must hope that Jet Li's Fearless will be good. SMan & Jack Sparrow trailers looked pretty good though but after X3 not taking any movie at face value

The following spoiler spares no love for the movie.

Those kinds of bits at the end of a scene are for the American audience. Seriously. The amount of times I watched a moive in the states with someone and they asked a question like "Ooooo who is that?" and then it get's answered by the crappy little end bit is ridiculous. :( In fact it's become a classic saying when we watch movies at our house now:-

"And for the American viewers. . . "

We're starting to be able to pre-emt them. xD

Phoenix would pwnzor Icarium. Why? 'Cos she's hawt.

Seriously though the movie was alright, not amazing. Just a good watch at the cinema. Liked the Magneto bit at the end more than Doctor X. But then McKellan is just cooler than Star Trek man. :)

Regarding Juggie,

Spoiler

Other than that, I thought the film had a lot of promise (for something that was cobbled together on the fly) despite having 3 changes of director, but the second half was complete shazbot. My thoughts echo Anos' and BADs' on this score - especially BADs' call about dumba*se Yank audiences needing everything laboriously pointed out to them.
It was basically a rush job at the end, because the studio was already committed to a release date when they were massively behind schedule. And boy, does it show. No, I didn't stay for the end bit after the credits, but thanks for letting us know. :)

I was really annoyed at having the film spoiled for me (and before you say, "Just don't read the spoiler tags!" they were written on a huge picture and posted on an imageboard, the bastards) but, through disappointed, enjoyed the film somewhat, even with the hokey dialogue, character-shunning and silly plot. Magneto at the bridge was kickass.

Spoiler

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

yeah.. middle of making out.. iceman goes ahhhh then arghhhhhhhhhh

that will do wonders for rogue's confidence... :(

but i am guessing its a temporary thing as rogue is supposedly more powerful than magneto who has got some pwoer left

on the other hand.. how do they put someone on the scale? is 5 open ended? is there a 6, would apocalypse qualify as 6 or 7.. what about charles? is he 4 then?

I think Magneto and Xavier would be class 4, and 5 would be super-mutants, but look up Omega level mutants on Wiki for the comic's attempts at scaling.

I went in with low expectations and found that wasn't even enough for the steaming pile that Ratner deposited on my feet. Plot holes so big that you could run the Golden Gate bridge through them, no emotional or philosphical underpinnings, characters acting totally out of character per their actions in X-1 and X-2, killings with no consequence or remorse - just to advance the shaky story, scenes just for the sake of special effects, I could go on for paragraphs. X-2 had gravitas, it had some meaning, it had a director that was actually trying to say something over than "look, I can blow stuff up".

I can stomach deviations from the comics. OK, Phoenix has a split personality, I'll buy that for the sake of the story. But (insert several lines of extreme profanity here, mostly concerning the director's preferences for farm animals, his parentage, the writers' ability to form a coherent thought let alone story-line) this was bad in so many other ways. The laugh lines fell just dead in a packed theater. No cheering, no laughter. Wolverine kicking the one guy between the legs got some laughs but even a cheap gag like that didn't create much of a stir in the audience. And how was Magneto just allowed to end up where he was at the end of the film, that made absolutely no sense at all. And you have the most powerful mutant in the world and all she does is stand there, in an ugly red dress, instead of telling what the opposition was up to. Oh by the way, having Famke Janssen, a 5'11" (that's two meters tall for you Euros) ex-model that can stop traffic, looking like a refugee from an explosion at the Red Dye #2 factory was pretty stupid. And for once, Halle Berry is actually doing a decent job of playing Storm and she's given lines worthy of a Michael Bay movie? This was really disappointing. By the way, in a final confrontation, how come Wolverine's pants stayed on? And what a waste of Rebecca Romjin as Mystique. Here's hoping she at least got a chance to kick Ratner in the stones before leaving the set. That, of course, is assuming he has a pair of stones, which I highly doubt.

Got to say, I agree with all of the negative comments here. I'm gutted. It was the movie I was most looking forward to this year and it was embarrassing to watch. Juggernaut just made me cringe. It was worse than my worst possible imaginings when I saw Vinnie Jones had been cast. The only part I really remember enjoying was when Beast kicked ass at the end.

Still, a handy hint for when I establish my army of darkness. I will make sure I've got an army of expert tailors in my woodland hide out. Nice to see the baddies got Phoenix kitted out so quickly!

I'm glad he said "Don't you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!", that was funny.

Overall, I'd watch most of it again. I can't say I wouldn't skip parts of it, though.
