Of course you are, you have a girl avatar. That makes you a girl. Girly girl.

The avatar Worrywort sports is from Tekkon Kinkreet and is a BOY.

Apt is on one side in a debate about movies, thus the opposing side wins. I don't even care what the argument is.

QED
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Amphibian I would like to thank you for using the verb "sport" in your explanation. I sport very few things in life, and even those not particularly well. My spectacles? Mediocre. My beard? Subpar at best. But this avatar...she's a thing of beauty. Of course I'm using "she's" there to describe the avatar as an inanimate object (as one might a ship or a prized car); the character within is indeed a boy.

To return to thread topic, though, I would recommend Tekkon Kinkreet to anyone here who's a fan of action and animation. It's a departure in both plot and art style from the majority of mainstream anime (that I know of); not sure if there's anything much like it on the fringes either. Without going too much into it, it's essentially a fantasy-heavy yakuza film. Not to say it involves the yakuza per se, but it involves gang warfare that most closely relates to Japanese film styles rather than, say, American gangs...except there might actually be some influence from The Warriors, now that I think about it. It should have pretty strong appeal to Malazan fans, given its fantasy elements, its thrilling action with bursts of serious violence, and plenty of philosophizing/personal reflection to go along with all that.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I watched Beowulf at the weekend. Interesting... a lot of it reminded me of playing God of War, especially when he was slamming that door repeatedly on Grendels head (and I absolutely loved that bit in GoW2!)

I wonder what MBotF would be like in that format? With the right director it could be amazing.

No a bad film overall, but too many of the shots were only there for the 3D part, and the creature design was.. weird.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Netflixed Waltz with Bashir this weekend. I bet this movie was not popular in the director's home country, given the unsubtle comparison of Israeli soldiers to Nazis. You gotta admire the courage it took to go there. Wow.

Only thing I didn't like was the ending, or should I say...the lack of an ending. But I guess Folman wanted to make it ambiguous.

A brave film well worth watching.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Anyway, Wayne is overrated, Clint Eastwood would kick John Waynes ass with one hand tied behind his back.

First of all, how can you call one of the most recognizable and popular movie stars of all time overrated? He is hands down the best at what he did at the time.

And i agree with the asskicking, but not with the arm tied behind his back. then i call it a standoff.

Watched Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, and I was actually really impressed by it, enjoyed every minute of it and whilst the story is a tad predictable it was a very enjoyable watch!

I like to make generalising, sweeping statements that ignore facts and just conform to my opinions.

But to answer the question. The handful of films I have seen with him were good, he certainly steals the picture, but the kind of acting he is doing is not exactly gripping. It conforms to that strange way of acting that every actor did in the old films, stiff delivery of lines, strange poses in scenes, silly action scenes, etc. He may have been the best at what he did at the time, but that still does not compare to the kind of movies that the young Clint Eastwood starred in.

Isn't that rather the point? If he wasn't recognisable and popular, he wouldn't be overrated.

I just watched "Let The Right One In".

This movie creeped me right the fuck out. Holy shit. It's not a slasher movie. It's not a "we're going to make everything dark and then try to scare you with shit popping out of nowhere" movie. It's scary just by being what it is. There are twists to the story, but they're like bonuses - not absolutely essential to the main story itself.

The rest will be spoilered, to preserve the twists.

Spoiler

This movie is so creepy that I'm not sure I want to catch the American version - despite it getting rave reviews and blurbs like "the best horror movie of the last twenty years" from Stephen King. I don't know if I can take it again.

Amazing achievement by the filmmakers - making a movie I want to never see again, yet I will certainly not forget anything about it. Wow.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I know exactly how you feel, except for me it was Little Nicky. Now that is a movie to stop you sleeping at night.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I'm going to go ahead and stop arguing this because 1) your 100% correct and 2) I'm letting my fondness for the duke make me sound like an e-douche.

Saw the new Harry Potter this weekend. About the same as the last one imo. Good, not great. But the 2nd half has major potential. 6.5 whiny redheads out of 10.

Toy Story 3. The story was good, but it was missing something the other 2 had, and i cant put my finger on it. 6 creepy ass babydolls out of 10.

Also watched Wedding Crashers, but you all know that ones awesome. 9 nude gay art shows out of 10.

BLACK SWAN - not nearly as clever as it purports to be, but visually impressive and overall worth seeing. I don't think Portman or any other cast will take an Oscar for this but Aronofsky, the special fx and the art direction might.

Well, I had to go see TRUE GRIT, and...it was pretty fncking good. The girl playing Mattie steals the show. Well done, Coen brothers :)
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Finally saw BLACK SWAN - wow, Natalie Portman holds nothing back in that performance. Loved the mid-dance camera work, you really felt like you were dancing too.

We watched that a couple of weeks ago, then had to resist the urge to slit my wrists.

Very well made, but wouldn't want to watch it again.

I watched Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Ok, I think I saw it once before as an in-flight movie, and I did have a bit of a rant about how crap I thought it all was.

But this time I resolved to not be quite so offended by all the aspects it's possible to be offended by, and I actually enjoyed it. It's really not so different to the others.

It may have been the booze and the happy mood, but I quite liked it this time round.

(Even though the script really is terrible in places. Yep, I was probably drunk..)

Just got back from watching True Grit- absolutely fantastic movie and one of the best westerns I've seen in a long long time. I'm not a huge Coen brothers fan but this movie was even better than the praise I had heard about it. Great film, amazing acting, excellent complimenting soundtrack and a great story. Can't recommend it enough.
