The Return of the King ?

As Neill Blomkamp appears to be a no go as director, it looks like many may get their wish (particularly the studio who are going to save a wad of cash) as to who directs the Hobbit movie.

Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

I'm watching Michael. I love this film so much.

To those who don't remember it, it's that cheesy romantic film about three hack reporters that come searching for an angel to make a report for some tabloid and meet the Archangel Michael. It was one of the first roles John Travolta got after his career got CPR from Pulp Fiction.

This film along with Phenomenon is probably my two favorite films starring Travolta.

BATTLE!

Saw Brooklyns Finest. It was OK I guess, but the ending was pretty exciting. Except for the very last shot, and if you see it you will know what I mean. Wasn't half as good as Training Day IMO.

EDIT: Just had a thought. If they made it Brooklyn's Finnest, that would have been way cooler...

just tried to watch "a serious man" last night. the new comedy by the Cohen Bros.

It was all serious and no funny. Turned it off 45min in out of sheer boredom.

Does it get any better at the end or is it more of the same ridiculous slow-pacedness and non-funny quirky characters?

Saw Prince of Persia two days ago, 'twas quite good IMHO. Apparently some people think the ending is dumb but
Spoiler

If it does well enough I'm sure they'll do a 2nd and 3rd movie, making this the next blockbuster disney/jerry bruckheimer trilogy since Pirates. And I can definitely see a bunch of similarities to Pirates, in the type of narrative, pacing and themes.

The love story in it I felt was not done particularly well, so I'm hoping that prince Datsun gets new wives in the sequels (cause that's what they do in Persia).

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Saw "Dead Man's Shoes" last night. Very well made film by Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine. Just as depressing as This is England really.

You're talking about the Coen brothers. Have you seen other Coen movies? I haven't seen A Serious Man, but most of their work is flippin' fantastic. Granted, I hated the Hudsucker Proxy and couldn't bear to watch more than 25 minutes of it, but the rest have been some of the best movies I've ever seen.

If you've seen others and liked it, it is probably worth riding out. If you haven't seen it, put it aside and go watch The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Raising Arizona and/or No Country for Old Men.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I personally loved A Serious Man, and thought it was perhaps their all-time best. Every character is pitch perfect, especially Michael Stuhlbarg, Richard Kind, and of course, "Clive". And the subject matter couldn't be more appealing. That said, if you didn't like the first half of the movie (bored?!?!) -- not that you're anywhere near being able to predict what comes -- but if you didn't like it, I can't imagine you'd enjoy the latter half. It's possible, once you have the complete package, but I kinda doubt it.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

well, my housewarming gift from one of my rural friends was a huge bag of dope.......

maybe I'll give it another shot.

I did watch "9" last night. Usually those movies throw in something for everybody to enjoy, but that one was all for the kids. Pretty depthless "kill the bad guy" plot and zero worldbuilding and an absolutely retarded ending...even for a kids' movie. Woulda been way better as a book with some more backstory on the apocalypse and how in the heck beanbags were brought to life.

Went and saw Grown ups on Saturday and laughed my behind off. Nothing really new, concept wise, about the movie but the main stars together were hilarious.

Most I have heard a theater full of people laugh since seeing the opening sequence of Super Troopers in the theater.

I would definatly recomend a viewing.

I've recently watched

The Fourth Kind: Stupid. A couple cool scenes, but also fucking stupid. 2.5/10 and I'm pissed I spent a dollar to watch it.

She's Out of My League: Okay, fairly humorous. Lovely lead lady, quite a bit unbelievable. 6/10.

The Crazies: Son I am dissapoint. Great concept, poorly delivered. Made me jump a couple times though. 5/10.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

You just described ever Coen Brothers movie ever made imo. I can't watch them. I find even The Big Lebowski dull and irritating. I can't fathom what everyone else is seeing that I just don't get!

There's nowt on at the movies this weekend :( When are Predators and The A Team gonna be out over here?!?! (too lazy to look on IMDb)

You mean The A-Team started here (2-3 weeks ago) before the UK??? A movie actually started in Oz before anywhere else??? How decidedly odd. Normally we get movies last. Sometimes up to 6 months later. :p

Saw A-Team last weekend - good, silly, OTT fun. The tank scene and the falling containers were a bit TOO much though. Wickers van der Merwe was by far the best thing in that flick. :p
Rampage Jackson was surprisingly good - even though he has since stated he found acting 'kinda gay'. :(

I like the less serious Coen movies like O Brother Where Art Thou, Raising Arizona, Fargo etc. The "quirky" ones. No Country For Old Men just depressed the shit out of me, even while I was impressed by Javier Bardem.

Double Fixed that for you.

I am in love with the tank scene. It was so hilariously insane.
Spoiler

And Pike is maybe my favorite movie bad guy since Agent Smith in the Matrix films.

I loved that movie. I can't really say why, except I have a thing for romantic comedies. And, possibly, because I watched When in Rome just before that, which made me want to cut off my own cock and facefuck myself.

I've also seen The Road and 2012, and I actually enjoyed the latter more. While the acting in The Road and atmosphere is above and beyond that of 2012, it's also sort of its achilles heel. It tries to be a "thinking movie," but there's so many unresolved issues that they've just glossed over. Like why the mother commits suicide. Like how the rather random nomad society appeared. And how apparently very average humans were the only animals to survive the catastrophe that occurred. I don't care what the disaster really was, it was fine being kept in the dark on that one. But when you choose not to graphically depict that you leave the viewer to concoct their own catastrophe. And then, when stuff doesn't add up, instead of enjoying the movie you're left racking your brain as to just what happened when the windows started to glow.

2012, on the other hand, did exactly what it set out to do. Dead dumb entertainment, on par with dangling keys in front of babies to create "dazzling" lights and a bit of noise. Also, as far as I know, Steven Taylor hasn't ruined yet another summer with this one.

On the plane a few days ago, watched: The Ghost Writer - pretty decent. Brooklyn's Finest - alright. nothing special. Edge of Darkness - terrible. And then capped it off by watching Fight Club.

Took my little brother to watch Prince of Persia. Twas alright, better by far than I thought it would be. Mind you, Donnie Darco did a good role as always.

Let the Right One In, and I'll admit to it being the first subtitled film I've ever purposefully rented knowing so and looking forward to.

It was definitely worth it, and didn't let me down at all.

7.5/10 (one of my higher scores lately) and eminently re-watchable.
