Couples Retreat: Good lord. Pretty ladies. Usually funny comedians. Awful movie. It has it's chuckles, but I'm not sure it's worth watching to get to them. 3.5 out of 10.

Law Abiding Citizen: Very good until the end. Pretty dramatic drop off from quality to shitdom at the end. Still, entertaining. And as somebody trained in the biz, very interesting legally speaking. 7 out of 10. Better ending would've kicked it up to an 8.

Pandorum: Dug it. Fun flick, nice twist. Gruesome at times. Sci Fi-Horror that's pretty well done. 7 out of 10.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I wouldn't see Avatar again even if it came with a free blow job.

Anyway went to see Wolfman, good acting, unbelievably predicatable plot, good atmoshpere, but really rather dissappointing in the end I thought.

Accidentally went on a mini-Sam Rockwell kick.

Moon should have been nominated for - and won - the Oscar this year. It's the best 2009 movie I've seen. It's tough to pull off a SF, isolated station movie that relies so heavily upon the performance of its lead, but Moon did it with style. The overall theme is of uncovering a conspiracy and the atmosphere is perfectly regulated. Very, very, very well done.

Choke is pretty good too. I read the book a while ago, as a friend passed it onto me. The movie is actually better than the book, and much of that comes from its perfect casting. Anjelica Huston was a perfect choice to play the mother, and Rockwell does a great job of being a douchebag without actually being unlikable. It consistently delivers chuckles and works as a story better than the book.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Moon was amazing. Almost had to settle for watching it in Russian before I finally found an English copy. Awsome.

Seems I'll have to give Moon a go. Seems to me like it could be a newer, better Event Horizon type of film. Is it anything like it?

It looks like the film won't be in cinemas over here in this backwater country AT ALL. I'll have to use teh internets again? :/

Bummer. Not enough modern sci-fi thrillers worth the name tbh! But it does sound appealing as hell, maybe indeed my type of movie - atmosphere, suspense, no stupid shocker scenes, and keeping you alert else you'll miss the important stuff.

I'm safe from that since I can't really use sound at work, thus making any videos really a do-not-watch...

Rented Moon tonight after reading this and DAMN it was good. Never even saw it at the store before, they only had one copy on the top shelf.

Almost made me forget sitting through The Invention of Lying and Couples Retreat.

If you like Moon, watch Sunshine. It's about a crew of people sent to reignite the dying sun. More of that isolated no-one-can-hear-you-scream space suspense.

Sunshine is indeed very good, but I feel it is more comparable to say Star Trek or 2010 than say 2001 or Solaris which are much more Moon's flavor. In my own opinion, of course.

Speaking of which: is Solaris any good? I know it's based on a really good book that I should've already read years ago (having the priviledge of being able to read it in the original language), I'm not very convinced about the screen adaptation.

I found Sunshine a bit generic. It is fine for a watch but I thought it was like "the best bits from claustrophobic space mission movies" for Sci Fi virgins. It nicked all the good bits and atmosphere from other films. Also, a really annoying couple were talking through the whole movie in the cinema and when I think about Sunshine, all I can remember is the rage! Talking at the cinema should be the only capital offence.

Solaris is one of those films that polarizes different film fans, you will get people that call this film boring shit. You will will hear people call it brilliant!
I sorta digged it...But it was slow at times.
