Saw Spiderman2 last week...highly entertaining for the most part, but with enough annoying pieces to piss me off (some spoliers):
- Peter Parker getting pushed around and acting like a dweeb so much. Why does his spidey sense not warn him that someone's about to bump into him and knock his books out of his hand? It's not like a switch that turns on and off
- How does he lose his powers and become "normal", only to get them back again later? We're not talking about performance anxiety here...he "is" Spiderman and possesses those gifts and skills permanently (or should, IMO). If he loses his powers, they should be gone for good
- Doc Octupus was very cool...excellent job on the arms. But he's just human! How can he fall 10 stories and land on a train and not be killed? His arms didn't even seem to absorb all of the impact. This happens a number of times. As well, he takes numerous full-force punches to the face from Spiderman...this should have killed him or at least reduced his face to a bloody mess. But Auntie May's umbrella does more damage
- At the end, when everything metal within 10 miles or so is being pulled into the fusion ball, Doc Oc's metal arms aren't even pulled towards the source. I can see them being strong enough to resist the magnetic pull, but to just hang limply around him when steel girders are flying by was a little unrealistic. Maybe they're made of a non-conducting metal?
- And yeah, too much cheese

Nit picky, I know, but I like realism in movies, even those based on comics

Saw AvP. Not as good as it could have been, but mildly entertaining. Apparently the director, Paul Anderson, is very disatisfied with the released version and hopes to put out a director's cut DVD.

- Abyss, thinks a facehugger makes an excellent conversation piece at parties.

Team America was hilarious. The best bit was Intelligence..... "Intelligence was bad", "Bad Intelligence!" (or something like that). And the main theme was brilliant... "SLAVERY!, INERNET!, STARBUCKS!, PORNO!, BOOKS!"
I also liked the big cats

Watched Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.

They shoulda called it: "this is what happens when 3 average guys sell 90 million records."

Was pretty funny, though.

And i just KNEW that: "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle" was by hammet. Lars and james might be a bit soft in the head, but they wouldnt come up with something this awful.

Just saw the Butterfly Effect. Not sure at the moment if I liked it or not. Really reminded me of Donnie Darko in a lot of ways but not as good.

If you like movies, give King Arthur a wide berth, dodgy editing, crap script and a laughable storyline.

good to see that people on here like The Bourne Supremacy. It's one of 3/4 that I want to see this weekend.

Molly, Danny Kaye is hillarious. Posted Image

Loosecannon, there are so many better comedies than Young Frankenstein: Howard Hawk's classic-Bringing up Baby, Steve Savage Holland's Better Off Dead, Woody Allen's Everything You Wanted to Know about Sex but Were Affraid to Ask, Robert Altman's Mash, The Marx Brother's Duck Soup, any early Eddie Murphy movie and Pedro Almodovar's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown for starters.

Some of Christopher Guest's satires (This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show) work much better
than Brook's parodies and when it comes to my favorite parody I like the Toxic Avenger. Also Brooks has nothing on the guys from Monty Python or the Zucker Brothers (Airplane, Naked Gun...)

Most of Brook's movies are a collection of obvious Vaudeville type jokes (puns etc..) The Producers is different. It is built around an original premise and is mostly character and situational humor. The puns in Brooks other movies can grow tired. Besides, History of the World Part I is Brook's best parody.

Uh oh. It depends on how much you like CGI and flying. The stories aren't as much fun as Castle in the Sky but the animation is often a lot more exciting because you really get the sense of speed.

If you don't like Last Exile rent Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx (2nd in a live action sword fighting series.) It will more than make up for it.

Personally, after I see an abstract anime called Angel's Egg and a 4 disk OVA set of Rurouni Kenshin, I'm not renting anymore anime till something new comes out. Although, I'm still curious what the animated Star Wars series was like...

Watched 'LA Confidential', which was an awesome adaption of Ellroy's novel. If you wanna see film noir being creditably in the modern era, this film is for you- very, very good, and perfectly cast to boot with Russell Crowe in his breakout Hollywood role and Kevin Spacey especially surprising me. Check it out.

Also saw '21 Grams', which I thought was rather wet and overhyped, as in nowhere near as good as it was supposed to be. In the opening third of the film, the constant cutaways to different scenes nearly gave me a headache while the whole film came across as trying to have 'meaning', which basically meant it felt shallow to me, like it was trying too hard. I infinitely preferred Sean Penn's other release at the time, 'Mystic River'.

I finally caught the remake of "The Manchurian Candidate." Solid film but the original is far superior. I would give the new one 7/10 and the original 9/10. Posted Image

Also watched "Army of Darkness" on TV last night, again. I love that movie. Posted Image

Anyone hear about the rumours of a "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash" movie? I think it would be terribly bad yet hugely amusing. Posted Image
