My housemates are watching Episode II on the TV... I was going to but I realised I could watch it on DVD at any time! ;)

Has anyone already seen the Brothers Grimm? I am thinking about going to watch it, since Terry Gilliam always directs interesting and slightly crazy movies. But the reviews I've read so far are not that flattering. Would appreciate your valued opinions fellas :D

And the award for best movie of 2005 goes to:

Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang

And i know 2005 isnt really over yet but this wont be beat.

I cant even remember the last time i was laughing so much during a movie. Almost fell out of my chair several times.

I just saw Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang last weekend. Oh man, it was the hardest I have laughed at a movie this year. Lots of great lines. Good to see Downey and Kilmer in a quality film.

I just caught wind of this. Being I am one of Tolkien's bitches, I am afraid I might have to get it:

Don't do it Dagger, don't:eek:

I saw the new Harry Potter. Bite me. An ok film. Streets ahead of the other HP films, anyway... Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, despite, like, 10 minutes screen time, was the pick of the bunch:)

Saw the new Harry Potter yesterday. Good SFX, but the film really shows just how bloated book 4 was, because when you strip it down to screenplay length you get...not much really happening (IMO book 4 is the worst of the series). Liked the actor they chose for Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan something?), and Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort was a bit of inspired casting. Will be interesting to see what they do with Books 5 and 6....
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I thought book 5 was the worst of the series... and I am yet to see the 4th film, though from what I have seen, it should be head and shoulders above the rest of the films.

I saw it last weekend. Like you describe it was interesting and slightly crazy, like any Gilliam movie, but it was also quite seriously flawed. I've a bit of a mixed reaction to it, there are some very good bits (some of the fairytale-inspired child kidnappings are effectively sinister and show some good imaginative use of CGI, there are some impressive visuals) and some quite weak bits (the dialogue is often a bit weak and the film overall seems very badly edited - I suspect studio interference - there were a couple of occasions where I could see a blatant gap in the story where I guess a scene had been deleted). I'd probably recommend going to see it if you're a Gilliam fan, but don't expect something as consistently good as Twelve Monkeys or Brazil.

Saw Harry Potter last night. I must say those films do get better each time. I agree with everyone who say that Voldemort and Mad Eyed Moody were the best. I think the problem with the film is that they have so much to keep in, but they have to keep the time down. Therefore, the scenes were very short and snappy, and too much was missing. If they had done one where they had both films within a couple of months of each other they could have made it loads better.
Dumbledore sucks. He isn't anything like the dumbledore of the books, and he just gets annoying.

I saw the constant gardener.

It could've been a lot tighter (way too many shots that only seem to be in there because they look good) and i dont really understand why, after keeping the whole movie low key, they had to start preaching at the end (its only for half a minute but still).

Great ending, though, and definitely worth the money.

Also saw the jarhead trailer, and its looking pretty damn good.

UH AH!

I want to see that.......I'll take my daughter along so I've got an excuse to go!

Must say though that not having read the books, I only have the movies to go on as a gauge for the series in general.......and I do like the films.
BUT.......I did attempt to begin reading the first one but found the style of writing so tedious I only got as far as chapter 2 before putting it down in disgust!

Yeah I'm supposed to be going tomorrow. Read most of the books and thought they were fairly good but not as good as a lot of other things, but my kids absolutely love them, books and films.

Ah yes Narnia was definitely one of my early loves, especially the later books. Just hope that the film does it justice, but after the LOTR experience I'm hopeful. Fortunately Narnia is a pleasure I've managed to pass onto the kids, along with Tolkien, can't seem to get them into Earthsea though.

Saw 'Walk The Line' this past weekend. Joaquin Phoenix did an OK job playing Cash without doing an impression. Reese Witherspoon steals the picture as June Carter, IMO. Plus, they do all their own singing, which is surprising (though again, Reese does better than Joaquin). If you like Johnny Cash (which I do) you'll like the film. If not, you'll probably think it's kind of blah....
