The Golden Compass: It was pretty nifty...until it ended on such an anti-climactic note. If only I had some dust...

Sweeney Todd: For some reason, I just can't abide musicals in movie format. Sweet scenery though.

So I saw Rambo today - lots of nostalgia because I remember the first two movies (if not the third) fondly. WHAT A RIDE! It is gory as hell, very formulaic (Rambo go in jungle. Rambo rescue prisoner. Rambo cynical.) but still a LOT of fun. All the evisceration (really) had the wife wanting to throw up, but I enjoyed it.

Oh and Rambo gets a nice 'into the sunset' kinda moment at the end that mirrors the opening frames of the first movie. Nice touch.

So I watched Cloverfield after all the praise for it, and what the fuck?

The movie blew chunks. The shaky cam formula of directing is lazy and lame. just sucked. I couldn't believe people like that kind of imagery. The story was stupid. The ending was stupid. And the acting was horrid. The guy that holds the camera, I havn't been so annoyed by an actor for years.

Way to rip into a movie without explaining your reasons.

I didn't like it all that much either, but I respect what they were trying to do, they just failed miserably doing it.

They hand held camera angle was interesting, for one, it keeps us in suspense about what the heck is actually happened, and I enjoy it, but spoilers kinda..

A full military presence in NYC is less than an hour, and an evacuation of over 6 million people in 6 hours, how is that possible? Soldiers chasing down something that knocks skyscrapers around with bazookas and assault rifles, come on. Along with the fact bunker busters do nothing.

The little parasite guys can fall in excess of 30 feet to the ground, only to attack soldiers yet a solid whack from a crow takes them out?

And, wasn't the monster in lower manhatten, the financial district from the skyscrapers, and they lived in soho, or the villiage and were heading north into Midtown to find the girl? How the hell do you head north and run into the monster south of them? Fuck.

Cool monster, great destruction shots, bad movie.

But a question, the movie was always marketed as a hand held shaky cam, ala blair witch flick, why kind of ending were you expecting, a short monologue explaining everything with a nice little boy?

Not really, saying something is horrid isn't explaining it.

Why did the ending suck, what did you expect? What is a coolness factor for an ending? Were you hoping to see the aftermath of the entire thing?
Why was the acting so bad? Was it the dialogue, were they stiff and unbelievable, no chemistry between the cast?
If the shaky cam was so bad, why bother seeing it? All the trailers were done that way.

(The main complaint I've heard about the movie was the way it was filmed, which I did kind of like.)

I do agree, it wasn't a very good movie, but it was pretty much exaclty as they marketed it.

Whoa there, I thoroughly enjoyed the Bucket-list. I found it on a site and had nothing better to do but watch it. I also have a habit of looking up films on IMDB before I watch them.

I hate drama, but when you have Jack Nickelson and Morgan Freeman playing opposite each other, there shouldn't be much to complain about. I liked the two characters world views and background playing off each other. I liked the idea of travelling the world and doing all the things you always wanted to do before you die.

I thought it was a very romantic view at old age and death and the ending, climb up the mountain, had me all teary. (I think it must have been all the estrogen they sprinkle on the pizza or something)

Awww...Apt...that sweet recollection of the movie makes me want to see The Bucket List.

First up, I was expecting an ending involving a last stand in the park with the camera dropping from the fingers of the dead camera man. Not a soppy "I love you" ending. I wasn't expecting a cop out explanation, but I was expecting a ending worthy of the build up.

Second: The Story was shit. Everyday people making EXTRAORDINARY decisions? Who thinks this shit up? It was like the writer had just watched Godzilla with Matthew Broderick, and he was like, "Hrmmm, How can I make a shittier movie then that? I got it!"

Third: The camera was shit. I knew what it was going to be like, and I was actually looking forward to it. But between the annoying camera guy and the completely fucking Nauseating angles, it turned out like a week old dead hooker. It honestly to me felt like a cop out. I feel the film could have been alot better with a more conventional camera.

Fourth: The acting was just fucked. The lines were delivered horribly, there was barely any emotion, and the cast were badly hired. Case: It takes that black chick 2 minutes to get over her dead boy friend? The brother doesn't even give a shit, and the best friend is cracking jokes? And this coming from a film thats meant to be about real people.

Fifth: The Director is a cunt.

I just saw Rob Zombies interpretation of Halloween. I must say I was impressed. Mostly with the first half but still.

My first impression watching it was damn that is one scary kid.
Second impression, I'm glad I don't have any siblings
Third impression, don't ever run upstairs unless you have a ramp on the side of your house in case mad killers break in.
Fourth impression, don't bother locking your doors and windows, the killer will get in anyway and then you cant get out.
Fifth impression, american teens are really skanky and I'm very jealous

I liked how you get an extended view of meyers background, the kid that plays meyers is scaaary. The whole psycological degradation of the kid and dr loomis attempts at understanding him was cool. The enitial escape was cool too.

It didn't really have the psycological impact that the first version had though. There wasn't enough creepy scenes of meyers just standing there with the score running in the background.

Meyers was much more terryfying in this one though. He was bigger, a lot stronger and aggressive and the mask looked like it was alive.

First: Not much of an argument here, though I didn't think the ending was as bad as you thought, it still could do with some work.

Second: Everyday people in an extraordinary situation doing extraordinary things? Who'da thunk it? If they'd done the normal thing of running the fuck away instantly, the movie would have been 30 mins of annoying characterisation of annoying characters, and 10 mins of running.

Third: Just a matter of taste, I suppose. I didn't mind it.

Fourth: Most of the cast were annoying, yes. They came across as annoying PEOPLE, not annoying actors playing 'likeable' people. I still probably enjoyed that scene where most of the really annoying cast members died as much as you. Most, anyway. On that note, if you insult the actress who played Marlena I'LL KILL YOU TO DEATH

Oh, and there was a scene where they were grieving, down in the subway station. It was between, you know, RUNNING FOR THEIR LIVES, which is a notably difficult time to mourn a loved one, and trying to prevent the same thing happening to another of their friends.

Fifth: You lost me.

Recent (but old) watches that I'd like to recommend:

Little Miss Sunshine ~ I put off watching it for ages after I rented it because I wasn't in the mood for any kind of meaningful movie. It turned out to be really quite funny. Although I was drunk by the end and can't remember how it ended, the journey to the ending was fun

Walk The Line ~ Bloody brilliant (and great soundtrack, of course)! I can't believe it was Joaquin Phoenix' real voice singing the songs.

Just watched John Rambo. Pretty cool. You know an actionfilm is good when it has scenes that makes you go: "WOOAHAAAHHAOOO!!!" and other remarks of surprise. The film doesn't pull any punches in the violence and gore department. It was fucking mean in some places, people getting eviscerated, decapitated, blown apart, etc.

All in all, a good action film, just too bad they didn't focus more on John Rambo the person instead of the action. The ending was very romantic though.

EDIT: You know you're getting old, when you want more drama and less killing... is ashamed of one self.
