I've seen Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, but not Eraserhead. I don't know if I like Lynch movies so I'm in no hurry to rent it. I'm not sure if his films are supposed to make any narrative sense or if he intended any real message behind the madness which bothers me. Twin Peaks is probably my favorite Lynch project (can't remember if I liked the show or movies better.)

I'm not that interested in seeing Gozu. I'm not a big fan of Miike. (I think of him as a shock director with some talent who has yet to make a truly inspired film.) I just watch a lot of Asian movies. I get most of them from an underground video store in Los Angeles called Cinefile. I'll see if they have Edukators, but it's a coin toss. Their region coded sections are: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, French, Italian, Spanish, British, and general.

Another strange/cool movie but that is more readily available is David Cronenberg's Videodrome. It's probably a must see for anyone in this forum who hasn't seen it.

I saw two new films worth mentioning.

Tears of the Black Tiger (Thai)
WaydownTown (Canadian)

Tears of the Black Tiger is a Thai movie that combines the sappy melodrama with the sphaghetti western. The color is unusual with black and white scenes with details shown in green and pink. It's both campy and ultra violent. It's so unusal and campy that it's more of a midnight movie like The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Waydowntown is an office comedy that is more entertaining than Haiku Tunnel, but no where near as funny as Office Space or the British show The Office. It has a Clerks type feel to it, but not quite as slacker and not quite as cheap. Unfortunately, it's also not as funny. It's kind of cool. Worth a rental.

Anyone around here seen Dark City? Now that's an underrated little masterpiece imo. Gloomy setting, unknown actors, interesting story, nice final twist... loved it!

I've also just seen Signs yesterday.... urks! That movie just sucks! Shyamalan is really a great director (i.e. he certainly knows how to create extreme tension and suspense), but in terms of story-writing... no comment! After The Sixth Sense (brilliant) and The Unbreakable (special) he really should have stopped writing screenplays and focus on directing, but perhaps that's just me...

It's just dumb. Not all movies need to be deadly serious or politically correct.

I was wondering, has anyone here seen Before Sunset or Before Sunrise? I heard they were really good...

Anyone?

Paul Verhoeven's movies gory?

I'm not a fan of Takashi Miiki, but his movies are the goriest I have seen.

Try Ichi the Killer or Audition.

Trainspotting disturbing?

Besides Audition, Shinya Tskuamoto's cyberpunk movie Tetsuo is the weirdist and most disturbing movie I have ever seen. A guy's body metamorphicizes into a machine shown in stop motion animation set to industrial music. The movie is an underground classic that influenced the weird style of the Darren Aronofsky (Pi and Requiem for a Dream.)

Saw Madagascar. Pretty good, not hilarious as, say Shrek, but pretty good.

Best line in the movie: "Well...this sucks!"
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I saw Constantine last night. I was quite pleasently suprised. Keanu annoys me in everything but Matrix 1, but I found myself neutral which is an improvement. I also despise Weisz and didn't want to see it because she was in it but I forgot I hated her so that was definitely an improvement! Posted Image
