Ah, it depends on how you look at it - if you look at it from the perspective of plot, storyline and all that jazz, then well maybe yes, however, if you look at it from MY point of view - that being the hotness that is Karl Urban- then it is a bloody awesome movie Two thumbs up!

Went and saw The Holiday yesterday - part of it was filmed in Godalming (where I used to live) so I went along with the family despite it not really being my sort of film. Usually I hate this sort of thing, so I was mildly surprised that I didn't have to use a sick bag at all . Not an amazing film, but bearable. I didn't think the storyline set in the UK was as interesting as the one in LA, but they focused on Cameron Diaz and Jude Law more...

Finaly saw Casino Royale. And I know I'm gonna get flack for this but I felt let down. Maybe it was the hype with everyone around me saying it was amazing, maybe it got my hopes up.
But one thing was utterly inexcusable, James Bond had to be bailed out of tough situations Three times, THREE times. What the hell? Sean Connery would never have let that happen. Not to mention an overdose of romance and far too much of a thug. I'd say the movie was on par with the others, nothing all that spectacular.

I'm watching it this weekend!

I saw Apocalypto last night. Good old Mel has made another ridiculously preposterous film. It was plenty entertaining though, once it got going. The baddies are great, visually it looks ace. Could have done with the chase lasting longer but Mel was too busy cramming bits of bastardised South American history into the plot. A splash of Smallpox here, a dash of Spaniards there, piles of decapitated corpses everywhere. He robbed moments from Braveheart, The Running Man, Predator, Mad Max. I think Tina Turner carved out someone's heart at one point!

Good as a mindless chase movie (once it gets going).
Bad as anything interesting about Mayan / Aztec history or anything resembling much of a plot.

Go see The Last King of Scotland. It is a brilliant story of the scots personal physician to Idi Amin (ugandan dictator and all round nut case). Forest Whittaker did an absolutely incredible turn as Idi Amin at once capturing both the charisma of the man and also his paranoia and insanity. It is an outstandong film definately recommend it to anyone.

Saw Smokin' Aces today. Nothing too special - lots of guns, explosions, misunderstandings and cool hitmen, but the characters were extremely one-dimensional, and I guessed the twist within the first ten minutes, which kind of sucked...

Saw "White Noise 2: The Light" the other day when I went to go see Apocalypto and had missed all the screenings and this was the only thing left on.

Surprisingly good, I enjoyed it very much and I'm going to buy it when it comes out- I recommend it whole-heartedly.

I'm looking forward to seeing 'Thank You For Smoking'. Its based on a book by Christopher Buckley, who wrote what I considered one of the funniest books I've ever read: 'Little Green Men'.

Little Green Men is about a covert US government agency called MJ-12 that has been charged with making the population believe that there are aliens visiting Earth by flattening fields to make crop circles, abducting housewives, and putting out fake stories about Area 51. The idea is to keep voters scared so that they are more willing to accept vast budgets for weapons and space programmes. Its an absolutely hilarious book and I would really recommend it to anyone interested in a satire of UFO culture and Washington politics.
