Finally saw War of the Worlds, the Cruise remake version. It wasn't that bad, despite flaws like the little girl being in the film, but Cruise was enough of a failure to be likeable, which is a shock in itself.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

^ that was terrible.

The new Bond is better than the preceeding Bonds- but that can't have been too difficult. and any you guys feel like they kinda... womaned it up? I mean, there's one shot of a beautiful bikini woman on horseback, but apart from that all the nudity we see is his. he ditches his first woman for his mission then actually falls in love with his second... although that made sense. and the ending was brilliant. I just think they tried to make it appeal to both genders, which is wholly and utterly wrong.

Also, see Pan's Labyrinth. Amazing.

I agree with Pan's Labyrinth absolutely brilliant such a good film so well acted on all sides even the girl wasn't rediculously annoying. The juxtaposition of the real world monsters with the fairy monsters was exceedingly well done. Definately people should go and see it.

Saw Stranger than Fiction. It was OK, strictly OK. Emma Thompson is reliable as always.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Anyone else seen the trailer for "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer"? it migh be just me but I'm getting a whole horror-comedy vibe.

Watched Taxi Driver for the first time yesterday.

A little slow at times, hate Jodie Foster as always, but otherwise, good film.

Bah, this is my favourite thread and it keeps disappearing.

I saw Pan's Labyrinth. It is very good. It made me feel bad that the only string of words in Spanish that I understand say "Son of a bitch" I like the way the fantastical characters looked so creepy, and it made me cry, twice :D

But to be completely 100% honest, he is one sexy man.

Perfume Trailer

I really do get a good chuckle out of the trailer, but something tells me it's more serious then it looks.
And has anyone read the book it's based on?

Ok, finally got around to watching the new Bond flick, and was profoundly and thoroughly disappointed. Great start, but everything after credit sequence was rubbish (apart from Eva Green's cleavage, mind).

@Falco:

I suspect you have raised your standards for this Bond film, at least above the general level. Look back and you will see more gaping plotholes in other Bond films. Compared to the other JBs that I have seen (I think I've seen all but one or two) this is the best IMO, despite the pacing issues. So they turned down the heat on the babes a bit - it was accompanied by a far more believeable storyline (despite the flaws you pointed out) than all but a few of the films that have come before.

I'm very enthusiastic about the direction they are taking the franchise, and hope that they continue making these with Daniel Craig. But hey, I guess not everyone will like it...

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Did they make this a Bond chick flick or what? Especially given the amount of time he spent wandering around with his shirt off...

Ah come on. That's a ratio of 20 : 1, Bond movies for men : women. Give us this one at least, he looks so good in his l'il pants after all!

I dunno, I guess I was happy with formula they were using before and I'm finding the tweaks don't sit easily with me. Especially when he gets all emotional- Bond should be about sassy one-liners and loving 'em and leaving 'em- that annoyed me much more than the beefcake for the female viewers. And believabl? When has Bond ever been about the believable? Its about the fantasy of saving the world every time he steps out to do his job. It cheapens him to be 'merely' doing it for a terrorism financier and a 100 mil. And where was the car with the gadgets? and Q? This is all classic Bond. And you don't f*ck with classics.

On that basis I hope you continue to hate the new bond films, the rest of us will probably love them :)

I'll be right. That's $12 more dollars a year for beers. And every dollar counts:D
