I agree with you except I'd give it a lower score.

You're probably right. I think I may have been overly excited at the reveal after the credits and gave it an extra star. I mean it it a cool concept right (end credit reveal)? They just need to turn it over to someone else to do properly and good.

argh.

had written up about the other films I watched on my flight home from china and it got eaten. blargh

in short

Hitmans Bodyguard
funny, over the top action comedy. reynolds and jackson bounce of each other well and the supporting cast does a solid job. Elecktra from daredevil is probably the weakest link.
7/10 would watch again

Murder on orient express
disappointing given the cast, Branagh excellent almost hamming it up as Poirot. Think the script/plot let them down. ended up being a little to convoluted in the connections whilst still being obvious what was coming early doors. would have been better with an open ending but Poirot always gets his man so they couldn't really Keyser Soze it

Death of Stalin
excellent dark satire/comedy on the Death of stalin. almost slapstick in places reminiscent of Allo Allo type comedy but with bad language and no madonna with the big boobies. I'm not doing it justice here, but its a well written film with a great cast and some real genuine belly laugh moments
9/10 would watch again and recommend happily

oh also -

Logan Lucky
fun heist caper. the Hillybilly heist so to speak, all the actors hamming it up with southern accents, good fun, easy to watch

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. This was absolutely amazing start to finish! Loved the songs, the performances and the story.

The colour grading (the type of random film shit I notice) was phenomenal!

Such a great feel good movie!

I watched Universal Soldier yesterday for the first time in probaby 15 years. Surprisingly it holds up really well, much like Bloodsport. It's just a really good, very funny action film from back when they still knew how to make them.

It's easy to forget now but Jean Claude van Dam looks like a million dollars in that film. Really charming and a fantastic look. I miss the old era of action heroes.

Game Night -- more high concept/sitcom-y than I was expecting, so plot-wise it's pretty goofy and holds together on a string. And it's full of characters dealing with their mundane issues with each other in the midst of a very dangerous situation, which is kinda cliche these days. None of that really transcends the trend.

All that said, there are some neat surprises and a lot of the jokes land -- there is a sequence with a dog that is one of the funniest things I've seen this year -- plus the cast is full of ringers so the performances are all great. I kinda forgot how good a comic actress Rachel McAdams can be.

Kingsman Golden Circle, watched this on plane too, forgot.

If the first one was gloriously over the top Bond spoof satire action really well and cleverly done, this was dialing it up to 11.

and

Spoiler

is it silly?
yes very much so
is it entertaining
yes, very much so

Trailer for Troll Bridge is out.
It's a Cohen the barbarian fable, eh, it's mostly CGI, which is for me but they've mixed the styles so the trolls are very cartoonish (almost 40k orcs cartoonish) but yet the rest is real world look so they seem very jarring.
Not really sure what to expect on this one, I would rather they tackled Faust Eric and introduced Cohen that way. Eric would actually work really well as a 6 part one off series

Going to the cinema tonight. Unsure what to watch out of Deadpool 2 or Solo. I love Star Wars so that is kind of my first choice but I also really loved the first Deadpool so I'm torn...

Thoughts?

Not gonna lie, this hit me so hard in the nostalgia button (something we all desperately need right now) hard enough that I welled up watching it. Amazing how they nailed this.
