I watched The Ritual on Netflix. The first third is pretty good, and then it takes a real nose dive into crap town and never recovers. Big disappointment.

I just checked, this thread has been going nearly 14 years. And this may be the third or fourth time I posted this but Overboard is on!

I want Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell to adopt me.

They're remaking it??? It's a tad kidnappy / sex slavish for a remake. I just pretend not to notice and try to ignore the bit of my brain that whispers "you totally want to be Kurt Russells trafficked wife".

(Ignore the clash with the adoption dreams above, it's complicated)

John Wick: Chapter 2. It's 1 2/5 times more John Wickier then JW1.

And I see what they did there. They super sized the mirror scene from Enter the Dragon. Also, did you guys notice that he used the guns in the order that the "gun sommelier" demo'd them to him. Ha! I'd like to go through a "tasting" with a gun sommelier.

I give John Wick: Chapter 2 four blood oath medallions out of five.

After seeing both movies now, I'm super pumped for the Starz show that will be centered around the the Continental Hotel. There's so many different stories they could tell there. It could be a lot of fun and super kick ass. Fingers crossed.

Wasn't aware they were making a show.

I think that both sounds intriguing because you could tell more, smaller stories, within the universe, but I also think it's dangerous.

Part of what makes the Wick Universe fascinating is the mystery. All these secret clubs and strange rituals, a crime underworld that exists like a dangerous fairyland behind our ordinary society. If you overexpose it, it might lose it's wonder. Especially if you just do a mediocre 12-24 episode season.

Watched Marvel's Infinity War earlier.

I was blown away by that ending. I've certainly seen better films and probably better Marvel films as well, but I cannot remember when I was last this surprised and pleased by an ending of a film.

I didn't like them removing Thanos helmet and making him look like a boiled human shrimp but I now understand why they did it. What they changed about him makes the story much better.

He's less 70's-80's comic book villain and much more complex in this film. Josh Brolin did a great job with him. I feared he would flop like Apocalypse in the last X-men film but they actually managed to pull it off.

Go watch this film before somebody spoils the third act. It's awesome.

What is the best way to view Infinity War? Stoned or Drunk (Or both?). J/K.

Seriously though, from a sound and screen perspective what is the best way to view it. Like, the highest of high end if it is available in your area? I need deets on bleeding edge sound tech and screen tech. All you movie geeks feel free to chime in.

In other words, I don't want to watch this one at Stanky Pete's Head Pictures and meth den.

[EDIT] Also is it integral to the movie and enjoying what is happening to have watched all of the MCU movies? Because I haven't. Like a good number of them - A couple of Thor movies, A Captain America movie, The second GOG, Black Panther, Spider Man. I know there are more.

1. Find the biggest most expensive sound/screen/seats theatre in your reasonable proximity.

2. Go there.

3. ?

4. Enjoy.

I'm not sure any of the previous films are strictly necessary. Obviously, the more you've seen, the better. But I was surprised how subtly it manages to sneak in recaps of a lot of them.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I don't! My wife commented that everything seems to be the same price! Like hey, want to stay in the Continental? 1 Gold Coin. Want a suit? Gold coin. Multiple weapons? Gold coin. Drink at the bar? Etc.

The gold coin = payment for a successfully performed assassination. One specific death as per contract = one coin.

If not in contract, no coin is given. This applies even in the second movie because the method of targeting is the repayment of a debt and not a contract outright.

John has a ton of coins because he was the best.

Is that an official explanation? Because that wouldn't make any sense.

He pays around 1 coin per body removed to the cleaners that arrive at his house in the first film.

He also uses the coins "generously" inserting them in slots to gain access to clubs, paying the concierge at the hotel, etc.

This does not suggest that the coins are rare but rather that they are an underworld currency, like for example krugerrands. Which is actually just what I thought they were. Gold coins worth roughly 1000 dollars per coin. Which would be a reasonable kind of lubricant in a society for the ultra rich and powerful and the people who work for them.

You really think a guy of Wick's caliber only charges 1 gold coin per body?

The bartering system would be completely out of wack if it was true. People would be insentivized to just murder droves of goons to earn extra tokens for the underworld playground.

The goons aren't contracted for.

And yes, the gold coins buy one act from the person they're given to. Just one. The gold itself is only supposed to have that value and not be a fuck off huge gold coin that's worth a lot. Real money isn't really important to anyone in the John Wick universe. What matters is getting obligations or buying acts.

That's why one body, one coin. One drink, one coin. One night's stay in an ultra secure hotel, one coin. One contracted for death, one coin.
