Watched THE FLORIDA PROJECT.

It was good. I don't think it was worthy of garnering nominations and awards overall (though the young star Brooklyn Prince, and Willem Dafoe are both worthy of actor awards for sure).

It's very much in the vein of LADY BIRD, in that it's an indie slice of specific life drama...and Worry, you'll be pleased to know it also ends on a smash cut in a weird-ish spot....and it works.

It mostly makes you feel bad for the people who live these fringes of society by places where the rich and touristy spend their cash. The kids all rise above that, as kids do and find fun (if mischievous) stuff to do each day to make their lives enjoyable. It does a great job of painting an illustration of those strips of tourist trap hotels and shops along the roads of Orlando. I especially liked the cinematography as it portrays a LUSH landscape...in a run down place.

Anyways. Solid stuff. And I WILL say that the way that both my wife and I thought it would go....it didn't go. So that was interesting.

Personally I would say it deserved even more award recognition than it got! Reaaaaaallly loved it. But I'm also just glad you got something out of it.

I also see the Lady Bird comparisons. They're different in a lot of ways (LB definitely feels much more "written"...whereas FP feels more vérité, though by the end you kinda get that it was setting up building blocks for something, just subtly) but they're both ultimately really sharp and realistic in their own ways, like you said, specific to the lives they're surveying.

I guess it just depends which one hits your personal buttons harder, cuz they both do exactly what they mean to do in pretty exceptional ways.

I've never been a big fan of vérité to be honest (I LOATHE Harmony Korine's movies for example, like GUMMO is literally the very WORST movie I've ever sat through in all my years), but I get that moniker here...but not in the same direct way. This kind of stand between the two styles I think.

But yeah, this was definitely a solid movie that made me think.

The ending (in which we assumed someone was going to die or be killed in an accident) was a really interesting way to go with Moonee crying to Jancy she may never see her again, and Jancy takes that moment, eyes big as saucers at Moonee's upset, grabs her hand they they run/sneak into Disneyworld together. Amazing ending.

Coco. I loved this movie. So good, i shushed my kids when they started talking towards the end.

Despicable Me 3. Not as good as the first 2, but better than i'd expected. Loved the bad guy.

This is not really accurate. The critics didn’t think much of it and tried to peddle that as the broad view of it, DISHONESTLY I might add.

Most VIEWERS I know of and saw online liked BRIGHT just fine. They don’t think it reinvented the wheel or anything, but that it was solidly entertaining. I liked it but thought it flubbed the ending myself.

I think we should be careful of using critic reviews as a metric.

And those of you who hate Max Landis, he’s out for the sequel anyways.

I thought that Bright was fundamentally mediocre, with some serious plot issues. I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could find it to be a good movie.
