Are you Apt in disguise?

I just felt it was awful from start to finish, even things I don't normally notice / care about bugged the shit out of me. The camera work, it was trying too hard or something, a lot of shots that didn't work, looked out of place or broke up whatever lite flow the film had managed to gather.

The story, lex luther, affleck, ugh the list goes on.
To say WW saves the movie is laughable, she is a footnote.

Somewhere on the BvS thread both Apmh and I explained why we liked BvS. I'm not sure it's worthy of opening back up the discussion. LOL It's a pretty divisive film.

Not to anyone with a lick of sense in what they consume for entertainment. It's bad indie Canadian horror comedy schlock pretending to be nostalgic 80's horror comedy schlock.

Yes.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I watched Alien 3 for the first time. It sucks! Totally incoherent.

How did you make it so long without seeing it?

Today I have watched X Men Days of Future Past, half of Avatar (I like it, damnit), X Men First Class and two thirds of Ex Machina. In that order. Hooray for partner and child visiting relatives!

I have come to the important conclusion that my favourite X Man is Magneto. I'd totally be in his mutant gang. If I was allowed.

I don't know, since I've even seen Resurrection several times over the years. But I figured if I want to watch Prometheus and Covenant (and I kinda do), I might as well finish out the originals.

On the contrary, let's all forget the AvP movies.

There are reasons. Not good ones mind you...

It is the product of NINE different and yet overlapping treatments from a bunch of different writers, David Fincher didn't have a full script when they began shooting, and in the end it was such a mishmash of ideas (none of which cohere) that Fincher tried to have his name taken off it (it was nearly an Alan Smithee flick!). The studio meddled with the story and scenes at every moment.

But then, it has Paul McGann...so that's a slight bonus.

But yeah, it's a crap factory,

RESSURECTION is much better for 90% of its running time...only loses it in the end with the whole hybrid thingie.

The best thing about A3 by far is the cast, and the performances in general are quite good. Way more oddball than the first two films, and if you told me THIS was the one directed by Juenet I wouldn't bat an eye. It also feels like a George Miller or Neil Marshall film in places, and I mean, obviously Walter Hill. But the script does seem like it was shredded and then pieced back together with tape, and the editing is out of control in spots.

Everything you say makes perfect sense and is right there on the screen.

I couldn't watch only 2/3 of Ex Machina. That's a film that needs to be digested whole.

Is it meant to be good? Because I guessed a lot of the plot even without seeing the beginning. So I thought I must be missing a lot of subtlety in it. I also got interrupted a lot during the 2/3 I did see.

I thought it was one of the better films I have seen for a long time. But I needed to pay attention to it while watching.

I'm a big alien fan but I've never seen alien 3 or 4, and I think I'm just never going to. I made the same decision with all the dune sequels. I've just only heard negative things about them so I'm very satisfied not consuming them and keeping the things I like pure.

ALIEN 4 (RESSURECTION) is actually really good for most of its runtime, and I'd argue worth watching.

That said, turn it off 20 minutes from the end and just think to yourself "They beat the Aliens", because that final 20 minutes shits the bed ALMOST more completely than Alien 3 did in its entire runtime.

A key problem with ALIEN 3 and 4 is that they try to recapture the dynamic and feel of the prior films, 1 and 2 respectively, and just fail.

They also have less interesting casts, fx over story issues, and story beats that just badly mirror a lot of what was fun in the first two.

Then everyone gave up and there were no further ALIEN movies. Or ALIEN vs PREDATOR movies. And they all lived happily ever after except for all the bursting chests and splattering acid blood.
