I'd like to point out that there isn't an after credits scene but the midcredits scene is very much there. I learned this the hard way, thanks champ

That could have been me too as I was badly hung over when I saw it. I stayed awake though but I did find it tedious in many places.
Film was ok, but I'd prob not see it again. While all franchise films have that sense of "product" about them, this seemed more so due to the lack of feeling of danger to any of the main characters. Maybe its just me though. I found many of the quips damn well annoying after a while. At least act as if you are in some extreme circumstances, not just another day on the job.
Cap 2 still waay at the top for MCU for me. I guess I'm more of a grim-dark fan then I thought.

The next two will break the formula I think, purely because we lose Joss Whedon after Age of Ultron - it's the Winter Soldier team who are doing Avengers Infinity War 1 and 2, as I understand it.

I thought it was better than the first one, the tone was a little less silly and Ultron was suitably creepy. I really liked Bettany as The Vision too.

The Captain America films remain my favourites of the franchise though.

Watched The Guest, an action thriller from the same dude who made You're Next. Not quite as good, but still entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny at the weirdest moments. Also watched The Woman In Black. Great setting/mood, and an intriguing first half hour, but that's about it. The mystery disappears SO early in the story, and about 90% of the scares are performed for the camera and internally meaningless.

The dog sequence is that was arguably my fave bit. It ramped up the tension and scariness of that scene. But yeah, there is some wasted opportunity in the latter scenes.

Yah, that's one of the last moments before the nosedive though (also, the dog completely disappears from the movie after that, without comment). Anyway, if you've ever been tricked by one of those prank videos that are completely mundane until a jump scare pops out at you, that's the second half of this movie.

Watched Avengers: Age of Ultron yesterday.


I agree with the majority of reviews I've read since - Watchable, enjoyable, ultimately forgettable, a bit messy. With so many characters it was bound to feel cluttered here and there, but it felt like that even more than I thought it would. There wasn't the sense of doom for the Avengers which the trailers/hype had built up either - as awesome as James Spader made Ultron (and I loved his humour), it never felt like he was even remotely on top during the film (in fact, he suffers several setbacks throughout). Seemed like they underpowered him way too much.

I did like the greater role Hawkeye got this time round, which I didn't even consider going into the film. And Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were both good. As was Vision.

Ultimately, RDJ and the Chris' Evans and Hemsworth all felt like they were phoning in their performances somewhat, while ScarJo was shortchanged again with her character development/arc - why does it have to revolve around a male character?

Watched Babadook the other day. Great movie! it is a Australian horror. very well made, with an awesome ending that i wont spoil. also bloody terrifying

I'm SO glad they opted to not bother adapting the 3rd book (LOST SYMBOL). That shit was awful. Skipping right to INFERNO was the right choice.

Watched RED 1 and 2. I've sort of fallen out of love with Bruce Willis films. It feels like he's been phoning it in since somewhere in the mid 00s. The RED films then was a surprisingly fun adventure.

The cast of characters, the tone, the over the top action and spy stuff all works to make a highly amusing experience.

I hope they make a couple more of these before one of them kicks the bucket.

It amused me that the first RED came out in the same year as The A-Team, The Losers, and The Expendables, all of which had the exact same basic plot (and the first three all had the same sort of tone as well).


The Losers was probably the best of that lot, although all are good fun films.

Haven't watched the Losers but I think there is a discernible difference between RED, A-team and Expendable.
The expendable films first and foremost are just plain bad. They are amusing for the display of famous names but the writing is basically toilet paper.

A-team was great in my opinion and they should have made more but again it stayed true to the A-team formula.

What makes RED fun to me is the fact that it's a comic book story and that is how it plays out. The characters are caricatures, that say crazy witty things and do ridiculous things and make it look effortless. The stories, the bad guys, the fights are equally over the top, which makes it fun because you know the story is not grounded in reality and could go anywhere. It's cold war spy action all the way.

Helen Mirren and her Russian boy toy alone makes RED 1 and 2 absolutely fantastic.
