Teaser trailer for the new Wachowski's flick JUPITER ASCENDING.

Looks really slick, and quite frankly after the genius CLOUD ATLAS, I will see everything these two bring to the screen.

please don't forget they also spawned Reloaded and Revolutions

I hadn't forgotten, and I enjoy both of those films a lot.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Captain Phillips is intense. Really, there is no let up at all in the tension, aside from:

Spoiler

I quite enjoyed it.

I found his interaction with the pirate leader to be fairly flat. I was waiting for something, some interesting bit, if not a big 'i grew up in Crapiopia, Africa and my entire career path consists of doing this stupid shit until/or being shot by the local warlord and you, privileged white american person, don't know me' moment than at least a tiny shred of 'we're all human here' and it never came. The pirates were incompetent savages, everyone but Philips was a fairly blank slate and yeah that's probably a true to life depiction but i dunno, maybe a better director could have drawn more from the cast.

I've long ago come to terms with your various disgust with my enjoyment of the Matrix sequels.

Have at it. :)

There were some interesting interactions between Musa and Phillips and Balal and Phillips, but for the most part their characters development came from interactions amongst themselves and the decisions they made. So, while I'd say it is still present, it is very understated.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Omw to see RoboCop!

Ed: well fuck that was pretty unimpressive...action was good and modern tech Robo was nice eye candy but for the story itself...crap

So.....basically like the original ROBOCOP?

My favorite part from OG ROBOCOP was as soon as we "woke up" he takes a cop car and heads right out to arrest people. Like, right away. No delay. Just goes out and enforces the law.

Badass.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

The original ROBOCOP had a lot of humor in it, which I've heard the remake avoids.

Got a great supporting cast though. I'll still go see it this w/end.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I want to see it...and I have fond memories of the original...but it's also nothing more than a really fun B-movie...so my HOPE is that I am offered up the same in this.

Even tho this one doesn't have Red Foreman blowing little bits off Murphy with a sawed off shotgun...which is a step down. :p

I bet in the new one he doesn't kill anyone with a retractable pointy wrist-based flash drive.

this. Two of the worst films I've ever been stupid enough to sit through, I don't blame them, I blame myself for sticking it out till the end.

Oh, c'mon. If those are the worst films you've ever watched you've led a sheltered life indeed. Yeah they're pretentious and bloated, but they had their moments.

And if you watch them now the CGI is so embarrassingly dated. The first film doesn't suffer from that at all.

The second one wasn't so bad, but the third was so laughably silly. Just like Robocop!

I've watched some god awful turds in my day, I'll not deny it, but few films have left me walking from the cinema feeling as cheated out of my money as they did. In fact none, any other car crashes I've watched have been at hone and thus not paid for, or have been you know, actual car crashes.

Pointless money milking trash that would not have been envisioned had the original not been so popular, they are the crossroads of twishite of the scifi genre

I'm not sure why everyone has such an issue with that scene.

I went to raves. In my eyes, it was fun, and made sense. You live underground? You gotta dance!

I don't "date" films based on their special effects. That's what was available at the time, and I'm cool with that. Just like I'm cool with all the Stop Motion fantasy films Ray Harryhausen made in the 1960's.
