I'm curious to how Agents of Shield will deal with the giant government agency spying on everyone, considering that it's actually happening and got leaked. The Captain movie may have been written too soon to work it in much, but the tv show can pivot faster.

I'd love it if the show started becoming a bit anti spying, through Skye's viewpoint becoming more adopted by the team.

The local cinema near my new house is AWESOME. £5 a ticket, it's an old art deco building and interior, independent, just 3 screens and funky straws for your soft drink I love going to the movies on my own and since I currently have no job I went to see Thor the other afternoon. It was just me, 3 young chaps, 2 couples and another friendless person in a huge screen and it was cool. I didn't know that there were 2 end-of-credit scenes though! I stayed long enough fort he Benecio Del Toro one but what happens in the second one? The film was good but not as good as the first one but to be honest, Thor is starting to get like X-Men/Wolverine movies - don't care if they are shit, I'm just going for a good perv. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Jayne Foster - all that time having Thor being in love with you and no opportunity to get him into bed?? Harsh!

Yesterday I had company to see Gravity. It's really bloody good, I didn't even drink any of my drink because I was so engrossed. At one point I found myself holding my breath and another I was literally on the edge of my seat. The 3D is great, I even ducked from space debris! If you are going to watch it, don't even think about 2D.

It's a two-fold scene. The first bit is the payoff to the romance...it takes place literally while Jane and Co. are cleaning up from brekkie and the Bi-frost appears on the balcony, and Jane runs out and embraces Thor as he appears and makes out with him. The second bit (which I liked a lot) is the huge four-legged creature that was brought through from Nifelheim during the battle in London, it turns out is still in London, in the parking lot/abandoned warehouse area from the beginning of the film chasing flocks of birds like a dog. I LOLed. It was super cute.

I really like going alone too, but I haven't been able to do so for a while now due to lack of funds. But that is something that'll change come January.

There may be a positive correlation between membership of a SFF book forum and proclivity for going to the cinema alone....

There are only 2 negatives to going to see a movie alone, 1) When you see something that knocks your socks off and there is nobody to talk to immediately after the end credits roll and 2) The other people around who think it is weird and look at you sympathetically when you ask for one ticket or sit there alone. Youths once threw stuff at me while I was waiting for Spiderman to start - that hurt a little! My sister has the more awkward alone at the cinema story when she didn't realise it was Valentine's Day and went to see "He's Just Not That Into You" (or whatever shitty rom-com they churned out to suck in the drones on 14th Feb).

Plus 3) if you need to step out, nobody to save your seat or watch your stuff. Though that's really only a problem before the movie starts or just in the first few minutes. Otherwise I like seeing them alone too. Especially indie/arthouse stuff.

on a bit of a dvd roll and watched some this past few days:

KICK-ASS 2 - Aaron Taylor-Johnson looks like a mix of Frodo and Harry Potter in his hobbit hair and glasses,, nice to see Chloe Grace Moretz/Hit Girl all grown-up,, will there be Kick-Ass 3,,

OZ: The Great and Powerful - i don't know,, i just dont see James Franco as a lead,, and i'm a little disappointed with Mila Kunis' role here,,

SPRING BREAKERS - don't know how to feel about this one,, as in the whole movie Vanessa and Co/girls were in 2 pc bikini from start to finish,, and that's pretty much it,,

PLAYING FOR KEEPS - nice rom-com movie,, missed Jessica Biel,,

THE BIG WEDDING - a sort of complicated situation/awkward moments for many of the characters,, i liked this movie and had many laughs,,

On Hold:

TRAVELERS: Dimension Police - a japanese movie starring Ayumi Kinoshita and Nao Nagasawa,, i still haven't finished this after only watching a few scenes at the start,, even with those 2 beautiful ladies at the lead,, i can't seem to muster the power to finish this,,

LOVELACE - not that this is bad,, but,, i don't know,, maybe it's the timing,, i'll get back to finishing this in a few days after,,

I saw The Good The Bad The Weird. It's a Pynchon novel come to life and minus the songs. It's also brilliant in every way. I wish it won Oscars. It's deserving of such.

I went to watch the inbetweeners movie on my own and that was a full cinema of teenagers. Didnt get any abuse or anything. I was hungover as balls and skiving off work in the middle of the day so didnt give a shit.

I would go again on my own and think I went to watch Total Recall on my own. Im lucky in that the gf will watch things I like.

Good to hear, the first was good but seemed to lack a certain degree of confidence... and the budget to really go to town on it.

I saw CATCHING FIRE too. It's certainly a competent film, yet I find the HUNGER GAMES films lacking. Maybe it's because I haven't read the books so I'm missing things, but it seems like the most interesting stuff is not happening on-screen. Also, I really loathe Collins' naming of things - it's like she's trying to be JK Rowling, and she doesn't have the ear for it.

I think having read the books certainly enriches your enjoyment.

For example, Finnick is easily my fave character in the whole series, with Johanna vying for second place (mostly because they are both supremely badass)...so going in to this I could not wait to see them....especially cause I love Jena Malone as an actor and she totally brought it. But without having read the books I would not have gone in with that love of them...so maybe that would dial it back for me.

Not to worry McLovin, the 3rd and 4th movies are where everything interesting happens.

Also, unlike The Bloody Hobbit (new official title), the last Hunger Games is a book which really would have benefited from being a lot longer, and spreading the film out a bit is something the story can support, I reckon.


I haven't seen Catching Fire yet, but the first one, while quite a good film, was really terrible in terms of being something someone not familiar with the books can understand. My brother watched it some time before me but after I'd read the books, and I remember essentially explaining the significance of half the plot to him afterwards even though I'd not seen it myself. It's worse than Deathly Hallows Part 2 for that.

I assume the second film is at least a little better for it?
