Holy crap! Have you guys watched the new Deadpool 2 trailer? (it's poppin all over the intrawebs, so can't be missed). Well the dude who played Pennywise in It - you know the real life brother of Floki and the vampire from True Blood? Well, get this, he is in the new Deadpool movie and in the trailer he looks like the spitting image of a young Steve Buscemi.

Naw, this is a movie thread, so I see it being appropriate here. I avoid threads specific to the topic, so as not to be spoiled by something.

So you'll just have to deal with it, kay? #HaveFunAndSmile #HowDoYouLikeThenApples

I'm outright saying that dogs would hear/speak/think in Pupperese. Having dogs speak Japanese is just as inaccurate as having them speak English, or Swahili, or Sanskrit.

Great. Thanks Drek, now I want a whole film in Pupperese!

Yes, this is totally okay. It's ludicrous to proclaim that any film must only be acted in the language of its setting. Indian audiences can parse subtitles, too, so Jaanemann (Bollywood film) should have been acted entirely in American English with subtitles? Brave should have been voiced entirely in old Gaelic with subtitles? Lord of the Rings should have been entirely in Elvish/other Tolkien languages with subtitles? The Berlin File (a Korean film) should have been in German with subtitles?

Why wasn't Moana done entirely in [appropriate Polynesian language for the location and time period] with subtitles?

I get what you are saying, but I think that Moana (and BRAVE) being a kids movie makes it a different ballpark for the connotations...kids won't sit through subtitled stuff in the intended demo of ISLE OF DOGS (which seems to be adults).

And LOTR DID use Elvish and Dwarfish and the other languages with subtitles, and then English when the characters switched to English.

That's a fair point as well.

I think this just stood out to me a lot more than it might have, so I can see the upset about it from the critics who called it out.

He hates me for some reason. Every reply he's ever had to any of my posts has been negative. I tried to get to the bottom of why he hates me, asking him to either pm me or even air it out on the forum for all to see (I have nothing to hide or no shame about anything). He refused. He ignores me for the most part, which I prefer and hope he continues doing, but there are times he just can't help himself and as to come at me for some reason. I'm a cuddly teddy bear and want to get along with everyone. Hugs QT? Or maybe just a solid, manly handshake to put this ugliness behind us? Whattya say buddy?

Thompson and Hemsworth to reunite to star in the new MiB film.

I think this could work, Chris has shown he has the chops for action comedy and Tessa seems like she could play the deadpan reverse to it.

That actually gives me some hope for it. I agree with you, plus I kinda think Tessa Thompson can do anything she sets her mind to. She's a phenom.

Yeah, but am sceptical the MiB concept has any legs left.

...the rumoured 21 Jump Street x-over didn't help that view....

I think MiB has plenty of juice, it's Will Smith who wore out his welcome -- Law & Order ran for 20 seasons, most of them good, on the one formula. It's just about the story they decide to tell, and whether the property is allowed to be actual fun vs. a studio exec's idea of fun.

I really enjoyed 21/22 jump street, I think Tatum suited that goofy comedy perfectly. wasn't overly enthused about the rumoured crossover though, I didnt think that slapstick would suit the MiB universe.

regarding Jump street, I think we can all agree THIS scene is brilliant

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle: Pretty good. Does "video game movie" better than most actual video game movies. Consistent laughs. And on top of the main cast, Rhys Darby and Bobby Cannavale were both pleasant surprises. Tonally it stays pretty light and is maybe a bit too wink-wink compared to Jumanji and Zathura, but not to an experience-ruining degree. Also it's PG-13 and not really a kids/all ages movie like the other two. And for those curious, it is a sequel to the original, just not a direct one, rather than a pure reboot.

The Disaster Artist: Also quite good. It actually manages to be a convincing, fairly moving underdog tale of people making outsider art, without ever pretending The Room isn't ridiculous nonsense.

I also watched this over the weekend, and would concur with Worry's statement. Fine, enjoyable adventure fare that plays off the "video game" aspects with tongue firmly in cheek.

And yeah, Rhys Darby showing up was a big plus!

I also rented and watched THE BLACK CAULDRON...and reviews are right, despite a solid voice cast and acting (especially John Hurt)...it's very much the nadir of Disney Animation....and it's no wonder the blasted thing nearly sank the Disney Animation wing altogether. But I wanted to see it before I got down to reading Lloyd Alexander's CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN series (which I've got , but have never read)....for no other reason than I heard the movie was shit, and the books would make me feel better.

Also, there is a part in the movie where a male fairy falls into the cleavage of an over-amorous, curvy witch and struggles to get out...and I'm like...they thought this was for KIDS in 1985? No wonder it earned a PG-13 rating.

It's fairly awful, unfortunately.
The source books i read decades ago and quite enjoyed. They're trope heavy but that's not a thing when you're ten or so, and it had some surprisingly dark turns, CAULDRON in particular.

I second this. I liked the books quite a bit when I read them as a pre or early teen, way back when. But the movie version is not good, unfortunately.

I got a new LG B7 4K OLED. It's obscenely nice. In anticipation I got a hold of a couple of blue rays in 4K.

I'm watching Thor: Ragnarok. So far it's refreshingly funny and quite silly. Hard not to enjoy it but like every single Avengers film I am down right offended by how un-godlike they keep presenting Thor, Odin and the rest of the Asgardians. The notion that Strange is able to just port Thor and Loke around really doesn't sit well with me.

But all that aside, god damn does this film look great in 4K on an OLED. Like, fuck me, this is pretty.

Indeed, I've heard the same, and I bought them to be able to read them to my daughter when she's older (or let her read them, whichever) as a kind of entry-level fantasy series.
