Oh no, don't say that. I'm seeing it with the family next week.
I've heard it's an okay monster film. Does it at least have that going for it?

Eh.
Not really.
I mean. There's a pothole that screams at you the whole time.
It tries to be a few things, and in reaching in various directions, it fails on all fronts.
A few decent performances I guess. But overall, I want my time and money back

We watched LION tonight. My gods, what a fantastically affecting film. Just brilliantly made and executed throughout. Well worth the nominations.

For a split second I thought you were talking about that 80s Jean Claude Van Dam film and I was both surprised and excited:
EDIT: Oh shit, somebody uploaded the full film on youtube.

Brilliant film. More for the fact that it is based on a true story, the after film clips were very moving.

Just saw ARRIVAL. Was much better than i thought it would be. Really enjoyed it, despite some minor quibbles. I like that it had the contact scenes be a process too rather than "I'll just connect my mac to the alien ship and upload something". Loved the sound design too. Very effective.

That makes so much more sense but now I 50% less interesting in seeing the film.
I thought there was some demonic portal to a sewer or something, shouting obscenities at people like Oscar the Grouch.

Aye... brutal... I was actually stunned to learn that...
Spoiler
It's why the after clips were so special.
It was similar to Hacksaw Ridge for me...
I've never wanted to see the real life after clips so much as I have with both Lion and Hacksaw Ridge.
After I watched both films I instantly went online to research the stories.

HACKSAW RIDGE is next on my must-see list. Hopefully will watch it this week.
Yeah, so far out all the films I've seen of the Best Pic nominees, I think LION left the biggest impression on me.

It was Hacksaw and Lion for me with shoutouts to Hidden Figures and Arrival.
Emotional impact, definitely Lion. For "I take my hat off to you, sir," definitely Hacksaw Ridge.
I was surprised by how good Hidden Figures actually was.
The only one I haven't saw is La La Land and I won't see it either.

You're not he only one. It's one of those movies that just yanks uncontrolled tears from your eyes no matter how hard you try to contain them. I was sobbing, so was my wife.

Yeah, I've got HIDDEN FIGURES on my list and I hear nothing but good things about it. And ARRIVAL was amazing.
LA LA LAND is the one film I'm worried about watching as there is so much hype, I feel like I'll be very let down.

The only people that seem to talk well about La La Land are critics. I know a fair few people who have seen it and all have said it was crap.
I think you'll really enjoy Hidden.

Just watched whiplash.
Very good film, I know fuck about Jazz beyond that mostly it makes little musical sense to me. I thought Simmons was superb as the borderline maniacal teacher and Miles teller puts in a good performance too

Finally saw Straight Outta Compton. Very well done. Ice Cube's son looks so much like his dad. Movie does a good job of touching on most of what was happening around NWA and each member as they left to start solo careers during that time. Nothing revelatory about what the movie portrayed, but it was a lot of fun nevertheless. I give it 4 F the Police out of 5.
