Just saw Spectral, a Netflix scifi movie about a group of special forces that have to fight...something. Pretty damn decent movie if you ask me. It's got a great premise, a fucking scary, so-much-so-I'm-glad-it's-totally-impossible, as fuck villain. And awesome scifi technology.

There is one point in the movie where I went; "Da fuck is this shit?" But I guess it sort of works, it's just so...McGuyver-esque you wouldn't believe it.

Just watched 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'. Really good show. Nice, funny, well acted, written, directed, shot etc. Of course one of the uncredited best supporting characters was the NZ scenery.

And nary a Hobbit in sight.

Well, except for the short fat kid.

Indeed, Arrival blew me away. Did not see the revelation coming, and the implications of it make my brain hurt, but a brilliantly told story.

Really enjoyed it as well. It's a really feel good story that's also surprisingly well written.

I watched Bad Moms. Big disappointment. Zero belly laughs, maybe 3 or 4 chuckles. This movie has no patience for anything, and while I was expecting a formulaic movie buoyed by charm, this one skips most of the steps in the formula for unearned payoffs over and over, and drowns charm in a bucket. There's some potentially good performances: Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell, and David Walton all do their best, but nothing coulda saved this horrible script. Also this movie might hold the record for pop music cues, there was seriously one after another after another, worse than any 'teen' movie I've ever seen. During the closing credits there are some side-by-side interviews with the actors and their real moms, and that was by far the best part of the movie.

Mark Wahlberg movies don't need trailers. Just picture him standing there in a costume/uniform, a pained expression & breathing heavy, with dirt or ash on his face.

This was the funniest movie my wife and I have seen since the original hangover.

Maybe you gotta be a parent to find it funny? We belly laughed through the whole thing. The grocery store scene and the dildo hoodie scene were our favourites. I was near in tears for parts of it.

This trailer looks like an add for the TSA and Homeland Intelligence.



It's a film on the Boston Bombing from 2013.

I think this film looks sickeningly patriotic and romantic, twisting real world events into a campaign advocating fear, abuse of power and just a tiny smidge of fascism, where the guys in uniform, waving the flag is the only one who can protect you from the Muslims and the foreigners.

Much like the 9/11 movie and the Deepwater Horizon film, this film seems in poor taste.
