Did a little horror mini-marathon last night with my sisters, four films:
Lake Eden: I chose this one cuz it was still daylight out and it isn't supernatural, plus I felt like kicking things off with a real feel-good film. Still liked it. I
think they enjoyed it.
Sinister (the one with Ethan Hawke): an outside recommendation. Absolutely awful. Some of the kills were cool, but otherwise dull and not at all scary.
The Strangers (the one with Liv Tyler): actually pretty good. Very effective in setting up tension. Often people mention it as their scariest movie ever, and it
wasn't that for me, but it definitely had some hair-raising moments.
Oculus: I hated the trailers but people here liked it so I wanted to give it a chance, and I'm glad I did. It wasn't scary, but it was an effective supernatural thriller that was engaging the whole way through and rarely stupid (unlike Sinister, which was almost wholly stupid). In a way, it was like a smallscale chamber version of IT. And the occasional grossout/body horror stuff was so good.
Major spoilers for all four films:
